Why's that?
I'm currently in my 3rd year of apprenticeship as an electronic technician (don't get them mixed up with those guys that install light-bulbs and such), and it is awesome to be able to design your own circuits. I don't understand what you mean with that quote, you can still do absolutely everything with digital chips

If you're saying that they are outdated, then I partially agree with you, if you're talking about the conventional chip. Today we all almost only use SMT chips :
