Definitely a much needed feature of a DBPro IDE. Just that single thing has convinced me to move on from the built in IDE...

Lol, there's nice Code Editor rivalry going on now. I never liked the Synergy editor; it has a lot of features, but it seemed slower than all of the IDEs I have ever used in its generation. It often corrupted my source files with strange characters; at one point I couldn't type in the word player without it changing it to p:ayer; everywhere in every source file. Maybe this issue has been fixed, but I always used CodeSurge anyway.

CodeSurge has been my favourite because it is very stable. The downside is that it lacks features at this moment in time; and its error debugging isn't very helpful.

Indigo looks pretty cool, but I can't be asked to install .NET version 4 on here, I'll try it on my Windows 7 PC. I need this one to be left as it is for my DGDK .NET 3.5 project.

Yours seems to be the one with the most feature so far, unfortunately I get an error message when I try to download your archive, saying that the zip "file is corrupt". It seems like it fails to download halfway through. I can't remember the last time I saw that message; it's probably server lag or something. I will try again later.

Interesting product name.

WLGfx,

Thankyou for trying our IDE.

We are going to be adding more indicators.

Chris Tate,

There was a glitch with our web server timing out on downloading. It is fixed now, all downloads are working again.

Stab In The Dark Editor does require .Net Framework 4.0

Installing .Net Framework 4.0 should not interfere with your DGDK .NET 3.5 project. In visual studio you can set which Framework you want your project to use.

Hi Stab in the Dark software, I've downloaded the latest beta from your site, but as it stands it is unusable for me (for 2 specific reasons).
The first - and the only real show stopper really, is that after the first initial run which worked fine (except for the below), I was able to use it to check out the functionality and features yesterday, but now when I try to start the application again, I am getting the message attached.
The second reason is that it is not sizing the internal windows properly for me and this is just too annoying to continue testing it further; what I mean by this is that I can resize the main window to be about half the width of my screen, but cannot seem to reduce the height of the window. Also the height of the inner windows are larger than my actual screen height, so I have to keep scrolling to see the tabs at the bottom of the solution/properties window.

Thank you for your feedback. We have fixed the bug with resizing of the window.
We were developing with it maximized and had not noticed the glitch with the resizing. Sorry about the delay in posting the newest release.

This error most likely occurs when you are not running it as administrator.
Go to the location of the installed executable; right click the “stab in the dark editor.exe”.
Click properties>>compatibility tab, then check “run this program as an administrator”.

that did the trick and it's working for me now - thanks.
I'm not sure I like doing this though as I don't like running programs with elevated privileges - it would be good if you could fix this so that it runs normally under a normal user account.

Another thing I've run into that that I don't really like is that the active window seems to automatically snap to fill the whole client area after a short period. could you change this so that this doesn't happen (or give the option to choose this feature) as I like to see both windows while developing?

Lastly, I have noticed that the font size used is 12 point and that this cannot be changed, could you please include the option to set this ourselves, as it's too big for me and I like text to be 10 point in my dev tools and editors?

Anyway, that's all for now; hope to see these included soon - I'll even promise to buy a copy as soon as these can be incorporated.

Stab In The Dark Editor requires administrative privileges because we allow the user to; create, delete, and copy files to protected folders.
For example the projects folder inside the DBPro install directory.

The font size for text can be changed in the Tools>>Editor Options window.
If you were referring to the text size used by the editor in the title bars and windows; currently this can not be changed.

Could you please clarify what is occurring?

1.Are one of the dockable windows snapping to fill the client area of the main form?
2.Is the editor automatically maximizing on your desktop?

Hi SITDS,
Thanks for answering my queries.
re:
Quote: "Stab In The Dark Editor requires administrative privileges because we allow the user to; create, delete, and copy files to protected folders.
For example the projects folder inside the DBPro install directory."
I'd like to suggest you re-think this as projects folder should reside outside this area (I believe in MS world, theis should be either under ProgramData folder or C:\Users\Public\Somewhere or C:\Users\<Username>\Somewhere.
Quote: "The font size for text can be changed in the Tools>>Editor Options window.
If you were referring to the text size used by the editor in the title bars and windows; currently this can not be changed."
Yes, I was referring to both, but allowing only the editor font size to be changed is OK for now - thanks for showing where this is found; I missed it completely before (but I hope you think about changing the other windows, and line numbering text sizes later).
Quote: "Could you please clarify what is occurring?
1.Are one of the dockable windows snapping to fill the client area of the main form?
2.Is the editor automatically maximizing on your desktop?"
I was originally only referring to (1) before (and I have attached a screen capture video to show this happening whenever my mouse moves from the one client window to the other - it only shows the editor window maximising now, but before it was happening for both), but I have noticed that (2) the main window does not keep track of the last set size and always seems to open maximised when the program is restarted.

Why would they just delete it like that?

I can host your demo on my server, it's been running for years and I have plenty of space. Just shoot me an email at gmail (use my forum name).

We appreciate the offers for hosting but we have already setup with a new provider. We needed a pay service for tax reasons.

Never use any reseller of ENOM.com that’s who we had trouble with. It seems their automated billing dept is not working. The reseller says it’s ENOMs fault and ENOM says it’s the resellers fault. Murphy’s law applies here. What can go wrong will go wrong. Also the resellers name is emailhosting.com don’t use them either.

I may be missing something, but whenever I try and start this I immediately receive a Windows error message informing me that the program has stopped working. I have installed the .NET Framework 4, if it makes a difference. A shame as I would have loved to try this out.

EDIT: Seems running it in compatibility mode corrected the issue. Odd, I thought it worked with Windows 7.

Stab In The Dark Editor does work on Windows 7, it also requires the .NET Framework 4.
This error most likely occurs when you are not running it as administrator. Go to the location of the installed executable; right click the “stab in the dark editor.exe”.Click properties>>compatibility tab, then check “run this program as an administrator”.

I just installed it and started using it. I created a new project using your Basic templater. There are numerous *.ini files that are missing such as D3D...ini, etc. Where are they supposed to be? They are not in the Basic template folder?

aerostudios,

The dependencies in the solution explorer is a list of the third party dlls that were used when the template
project was made. The IDE checks if the keywords ".ini" files for the dlls are in the Editor/Keywords directory for DBpro.
We added this feature to keep track of which third party dlls you used when creating a project. If you posted your project for others
to use you could easily give a list of which third party dlls they would need to be able to compile the project.
To compile the basic project you will need the "D3D.dll" and "Matrix1's utilitys dlls" both are free here are the download links.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=85209&b=18

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=69221&b=5

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for trying the IDE.
We are getting a new version of the IDE ready for release. A new feature will be added which will allow for breakpoints in the code
and variable values will be displayed. Also some bug fixes.

Edit: You can save your own projects as a template as well. Under the
file menu click Export template then choose a name and icon. The new template will be
available when creating a new project.
