Quote: "I really don't feel like arguing this but I'm going to anyways because you irritated me by saying I only agree with it because I grew up with it. That's ignorant and annoying.
In speech I say, 'Today is October 31, 2011. When I write, why on Earth would I not write it the same way I say it? It doesn't make sense not to. How is it logical to write it d/m/y anymore so than it is m/d/y? It's not. Unless we said 'Today is 31 October, 2011, I'm not going to write it 31/10/11.' I'm going to write it the way I say it."

Actually, that is exactly the reason you agree with your date system. There is no more logic for either system. You are just used to your system, just as we are used to our system.

You would say, "October the 31st"
I would say, "The 31st of October"

To deny that the only argument for or against each system is your personal preference is ignorant and annoying.

You take measurements in the imperial system but measure the speed of your car in KMPH (Metric).
We take measurements in the metric system but measure the speed of our car in MPH (Imperial).

You might argue that your system is the best but thats only because you grew up in that environment and I would do the same.
Either way is acceptable, its just based on your preference.

Isn't it too early to pump out a new one?

Don't like the new GTA's anyways, it all just went onto a very strange direction for me after the good old topview stuff in 1 & 2...

Vice city was my favourite but I like the RPG elements in SA. Not to keen on GTA 4.

I thought Americans measured the speed of cars in MPH and that the UK measured in KMPH? Did I misunderstand your post or have I been lied to all along?

Edit: USA and UK both use MPH, so I don't really understand BiggAdd's post.

Actually Americans measure their distances and car speeds in MPH.

In Canada we use KPH for distances and cars.

We use metric for everything in Canada, except when we speak we talk about our height in feet and inches, and our weight in pounds. Yet when we go to the hospital or are measured for our driver's license it's all centimetres and kilograms!

Maybe the US date format denotes the way that you say it, if all your life you read month/day/year. As someone said, we tend to refer to the day then the month when talking about dates. I mean, fair enough, drop the U from COLOR and introduce some nice zingy Zeds in your words, but having 2 date formats that are indistinguishable is retarded, it causes so many problems and so much time - no American has ever efficiently defended that date format, in fact most explanations follow the lines of 'that's how we say it'. While I'm bitching about formats... any chance that we could choose just 1 temperature scale, either fahrenheit or celsius, but not both!.

But, my real point is that it's not a logical format, a logical format would follow a hierarchy of values, time goes high/med/low, UK dates go low/med/high, and US dates go med/low/high. Although, the US military uses the 'standard' dd/mm/yy format. Personally, I'd rather see yyyy/mm/dd formats, because then they could be sorted with a simple alphanumeric bubble sort, much quicker than date conversion .

The date system doesn't bother me. Occasionally on websites where I don't read properly I'll be told that I have selected an incorrect date because it goes month, day, year.

And sometimes I'll be excited about the release date of a game only to realise that it's still months away.

Quote: "You'd say "Today is the 31st of October". "

You don't have to use ordinal numbers when writing the date. It isn't grammatically incorrect to not do so. It's also not grammatically incorrect to write the date without 'the' or 'of'. So even though "Today is 31 October, 2011" might look wrong, it isn't.

Vice City should be pretty sweet anyway. Too bad us PC gamers will probably have to wait a year.

Hopefully they come out with a PC version. I have my doubts after all the crying at the last release.

Wait, everything I'm seeing says the video's in vinewood, in san andreas... Won't be able to glimpse the video for a while yet though.

hmm, I'd say it looks like it's sent in san andreas again, that was a Vinewood sign at one point in the trailer, though there were some scenes that looked like Miami/Vice City, so maybe it's set in both?

@ Jerico2day

Well, i dont know, lime many they proboly developed it for consoles originally and then ported it to PC. Apperentley GTA4 was a pretty hard to port because it was a whole new engine which was a lot more complex than their previos ones. I mean sure PC games will start crying and screaming, if they delay the PC version again, but we are not going anywhere (most of us), by the time a pc version is released, PC gamers will still be around to buy it.

guys, i dont think its san andreas, it look too much like vice

[EDIT] Come on you guys, the Roman number 5, the letter V it should be obvios that v stands for vice city, beised, that came after libery city in GTA1? vice city. Then in GTA3 series, the next game after liberty was vice city, so its only obvious they would want to follow the treadition, Last major GTA game we had was liberty. and what comes after liberty? VICE CITY! But on the other hand, imagine how awesome San Andreas is gonna be on this engine! a then it would only make sence to build up the croud before san andreas which will be their biggest thing

edit[ i read that wrong] i highly doubt its san andreas.
[edit again] just rewatched the reailer more carefully and yes i see little details and stuff. that point to san andreas. the thing is, this trailer dosent have the san andreas feeling, it just looks too much like vice, san andreas would have deserts and maybe a piece of los venturas, The city shown in the trailer dosent look much like LA or los santos. and the vinewood sign could just be a copy kinda like there is a copy of the great sphinks in las vegas or something. people build copies of famous monuments and landmarks all the time.

Pagan, it has the Vinewood sign, and if you pause the video as the cop car goes past, the badge on the side clearly reads "Los Santos Police". It's definitely San Andreas

@ quirk
no thats skyrims release date.

[edit] Also i liked the idea of most gta games taking place not in our time period but somewhere in the past 30 years. GTA4 was nice because 2008 had a lot of stuff and pop culture they could make fun of and I was really hoping with GTA5 they would go back to the 90s or 80s but the trailer looks pretty modern day. Maybe like somwewhere in early/ mid 2000s

i feel really dumb today. I assumed you meant that LA noire already came out and i started to wonder why i didnt hear anything about it.

[edit] BTW, in the trailer 1:06 the dude looks like CJ from the old SA and he is chased by a helicopter and cops, That scene looks like its been pulled straight out of the old san andreas. cept its really colorful and bright...

IIRC, this happens all the time. Get about 3 or 4 wanted stars and the helis will come chase and shoot you. Although, I don't really remember that scene in SA..

in some of the san andreas trailers i think they show CJ running from a heicopter and idk, but that particular scene or even i would call it an idea, CJ in a white tanktop (CJs most iconic image), running away from the helicopter, just realy stuck with me, I immediatley remembered the old san andreas when i saw that part of the trailer. And for some reason it wasnt Tommi Vercetti or Claude (the GTAIII guy) or Nicko that popped into my head for sopme reason i can only remeber CJ running from helicopters. Maybe CJ just generally looks badass when running away from a helicopter i dont know. but that scene just looks really familiar

Up until the Vinewood sign I thought it looked a lot like Vice City. I don't understand why they would break the chain and skip Vice to go straight to San Andreas.

Actually the PC release of GTA5 might not be delayed this time at least it has no reason to be. The way i see it is GTA4 was a new engine and back then Rockstar needed some time to figure out how to port it to PC. GTA5 is proboly built on a modiefied version of GTA4 engine which means by now they know how to port it to pc since they did it before.

The only reason for them to delay the PC version is out of fear of piracy and loosing profits.

The good thing about the PC version of GTA4 being delayed, is that the price dropped really quickly - I think I bought it on Steam for £5, I had already played through the 360 version - PC version was really just for multiplayer and mods.

From what I remember reading GTA IV on PC was an awful port, with a nightmare log in system. Or was that just people moaning for the sake of it.

very true, my friend has an "almost up to date gaming rig" <- meaning its a very good one, and he still cant max it out

when it came out i couldnt run it at all (or, well with an average fps of 10 with all settings set to as low as possible) and i could run crysis on medium

and since it uses games for windows live.. do i have to say more?

Because the developers latley keep the PC versions of the game on a tight leash and sometimes dont even release PC versions, I actually want to buy a few consoles. I heard they released a keypad and a mose for PS3 so i am ok with that when playing an FPS. I cant use a controler for PFSs for my life. Also if i am not mistaken, xbox also has a keyboard and mouse.

Personally I'm more excited for Saints Row the Third. The second game had me in stitches and this looks to be even more over the top.

If they bring jetpacks back for GTA V I will be more impressed.

only problem with consoles for me is.. that i dont feel i can play seriously on the sofa, neither can i have skype and such programs up at the same time as flipping through the internet when i die in RO2...
Consoles are fine for party gaming though, bring over a few friends and play a bit of super smash brawl, THATS what i have consoles for..

I hope they don't mess up the controls on this one. IV was cool, fun, and interesting, but I feel the controls were laggish. The character moved TOO realistically or something. The car driving was strange too. It was too difficult. I can't say I invested much time but I blame the story on that one. I feel the story didn't really catch me and get me involved as much as san andreas. I can't wait for V though. I liked San Andreas. Though I wish they'd just move on to a new city :\
