NAME: What Lies Beneath

DEVELOPER: Nickydude [MadLad Designs]

USING: X9 - no mods.

Storyline: You play the part of a rookie policeman who's been called to the local cemetery as people claim to have seen the dead walking...

This is definitely a work in progress just to see what I can do with the latest version of FPSC so don't hold your breath...

Ohhhh very nice. I like the story, it's plane and simple. Plus your not super soldier that for some reason is conveniently near a grave yard with a billion weapons and rocket launchers. I like that your just a cop... Just an average joe with some basic training.

This totally reminds me of your older projects, only this is better. The seconds screenshot totally looks like Silent Hill.

OK onto criticism. In the first screen, you should add stuff to the floor on the left side. In the last two screens, the background is just empty, add trees or something to give it a nice feeling.

Great work so far, waiting for it!

At the moment I'm getting the important things into the game, like the enemies and specific areas, once I've done that I'm going back and filling it all in with bits and pieces so yes, it does look a bit 'empty' at the moment but it won't be when I'm finished.

A demo is now available:

Demo removed for now...

The demo is 100mb (pretty big I know) and is really only for speed purposes on different computers. You'll find that you can't go very far as areas are invisibly blocked but you should get an idea of the layout and speed. I would appreciate it if you could tell me whether the demo ran at a decent speed or not.

C&C always welcome.

First, and I mention this for the benefit of others who may post their "work in progress", thanks for having something done and showing more than one picture. They look great.

Ambiance is of course excellent, though the thunder on a clear starry night was a little disturbing. The layout and design is great and the trees do a nice job of keeping the view short and separating areas. It looks very believable except I'm not sure what the gated maze-type path is for. It might be better done with a mixture of things, perhaps wall, shrubs, trees, fence, ect, as it seems repetitious and overdone. The speed was good and movement was smooth even on my second system which is glitchy on most games.

I'm anxious to see where the other gates will lead to. See attached.

Brian.

The graveyard level is just one of a number of levels in the game, just thought you'd like to know.

Looks cool. You have a talent for creating outdoor areas for zombie games

But what happened to "He is coming"?

Perhaps this is what lies beneath "him"? The plot thickens, perhaps "his" true malevolent plan unfolds when we discover the hidden secrets below...bah I don't know.

This is looking great so far Nickydude, excited to try playing a demo! The fog you've got in the cemetery is quite spooky, very atmospheric and well made. Keep it up!

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

Looks cool but I noticed two things:

1. The wooden fence is way too shiny, fix the specmap
2. The grass on the path is much different from the segment grass, maybe a fix there?

Keep up.

I agree with both of charger bandit's points.

Just one more thing to add:

The level is very open which really emphasises the flatness of the ground. Perhaps consider adding some larger entities to restrict the players view somewhat in other open spaces. The level is also quite square in its design, so some angled entities would improve it drastically. Perhaps even some terrain?

I like the atmosphere though, as well as the ambience level you set in the video. A touch more fog could go down a treat.

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated.

I've (hopefully) toned that down.

There'll be a fence to cover the transition.

I will fill the openness and flatness but I'm already getting close to the 1.8gb limit (1.4 at the moment) but I'll do my best.

The fog looks awesome, is that a custom script?
