4 Ways to Customize Your Desktop

Want to see what my desktop looks like?
I attached the PNG to this post.

Ways to Fully Customize Your Desktop (Windows 7)
For people who are new to fully customizing their system.

Number One
A Good Wallpaper

Not just any cell phone wallpaper can be used if you really want to show off your desktop.

You need a good, high resolution, wallpaper.

And to be more specific, you need the wallpaper to be in JPEG format at 99% quality.

WallBase.CC is a very good website that allows you to easily find good wallpapers based on specified size, aspect ratio, and HQ/HD quality.

I'm assuming you know how to set your background once you have obtained the image file you want...

Number Two
Custom Themes

Are you board with the way that Microsoft has styled Windows 7, do you crave something new?

If you answered yes, then I applaud you.

As you can see in the picture posted above, that is not the way Windows 7 usually looks.

It has a different font, as well as different buttons, frames, bars, etc.

The theme that is used on my desktop in the picture is called Glass Onion.

The link to the artists original posting of the theme is found here, at Deviant Art.

The WinRAR archive contains instructions on how to install the theme, as well as the theme files.

Once you have gotten that theme working, you are now ready to explore some other types of themes.

Here is a link to 21 of the Best Windows 7 Themes Ever.

Number Three
Gadgets

In case you haven't noticed, right clicking on the desktop in Windows 7 will bring up a list Gadgets button.

If you click on this you will be show a list of gadgets that can be position anywhere on the screen.

(They also snap to the sides of the desktop in case you want everything lined up and looking neat.)

Gadgets are small desktop apps that can do a wide variety of things like tell you what the weather is like, show you current CPU/GPU usage, etc.

Number Four
Change the Windows Boot Animation

Yep, you can change the boot animation.

As well as the words that pop up under that animation.

[href=http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=windows+7+boot#/d48rmvz]This[/href] is a good one because the artist also gave very detailed instructions,
on how to install the boot skin.

He also even included the utility that's used to do it, in the RAR.

How nice!

I'm sure some people would appreciate the effort you put into letting people know about this but I don't think you taught anyone anything new.

Besides, most people want the best performance out of their computer so they'll probably never use gadgets/skins as it saps much needed resources from trying to get the best framerate out of our games.

Why does my wallpaper have to be jpeg? PNG works fine for me. I have no use for gadgets, it's just more wasteful resources. I would recommend downloading Fences to keep the desktop nice and clean.

Your signature has been erased by a mod please reduce it to no larger than 600 x 120.

I had nothing but problems with fences. I didn't like that software at all.

Then & Than
THAN: Unlike then, than is not related to time. Than is used in comparative statements.
THEN: Then is used either as a time marker or with a sequence of events.

Runs great for me... but I really need it too concidering all the junk I usually have on my desktop. To keep things pretty to look at and ordanized.

Most people I know do, I don't get it either. Here I only use gadgets that make the appearance of my desktop prettier, but only simple ones (those that swap standart windows graphics etc.) ... I dont get all these little apps that are practically useless and this 3D Desktop Garbage.

@Paradox452: All that effort to the text for showing off a Halo fanboy desktop at the end? Now this is irony right here

I had big problems when I would start a piece of software that changed the resolution of my desktop. Seeing as many games don't default to my resolution the first time they start up, or playing GoG games which have to run at a low resolution, I just gave up with it.

Hmm... There must be some way to turn this off because mine doesn't cause any trouble whenver I change resolution. But well, its no mandatory software so I guess you won't bother reinstalling it anyway
