lol, tell that to the millions of people buying iPads and Amazon Fire tablets lol.
I myself had the marriage ceremony to my iPad last week, ever since I had it almost six months ago, the damn thing has never left my side. It's gotten to the point how were the only time I pick up a real netbook, is when I need to program, write my novel, film a tutorial, or write e-mails.
Beyond that my iPad is the gateway to all things. With splashtop I can sit and enjoy a full flash web experience hosted on my laptop which has been relegated to act as a server in the back room. But for most of my browsing, as I find more and more websites iPad compatible, and many of them with their own apps, I don't even bother with that. I watch TV on my iPad, read news on my iPad, post on these forums using my iPad, I design using the iPad, produce game artwork with my iPad, watch crunchy-roll with my iPad, I control other devices with my iPad (including my Virgin Media Tivo setup), I read magazines on my iPad, I'm reading Snuff on my i... oh wait no I used a kindle 3 for that... but still if I wanted to read snuff on my iPad (terry pratchett novel) I could.
Honestly, I find less and less need for a keyboard these days. If I wasn't into programming, and writing, I might even consider getting rid of my computer hardware all together. For most non-technical users the iPad is brilliant. With the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 offering the same screensize, quality and a full Flash experience, there's even less need for a laptop/ desktop computer.
Tablets are here to stay, why else would Windows 8 be designed around the tablet interface? Why else would they even be talking about taking windows 8 to ARM processors. There are still some things you can't do on a tablet, but those things are becoming fewer every day.
P.S. I installed a C++ compiler on my android phone last night, all I need is a bluetooth keyboard and I'm set to try it
