Hi all, im really just looking for some advice.

I have written a very basic model viewer, more for my own use but intend to have it downloadable for free.

Im not sure how to go about this, as in hosting etc.

Ive been looking at paying £5 per month with BT for a website hosting package, but im not sure on bandwidth etc if there are a lot of downloads.

Do any of you have a host you use or a website that you use to host you software and then give people the link to it?

Thanks

You can always just post it on this forum by starting a new thread in Program Announcements.

Does that allow you to upload it to this website though?

Right now I use webs for a free subdomain, and I use mediafire to host my files. Mediafire is like the youtube for files, so you have unlimited uploads and downloads. Using the basic website supplied by webs and the files pictures and webpages hosted by mediafire, you can make your website just about as fancy as you like for free!
Of course, you will be a subdomain like mysite.webs.com,but you could fix this by getting a payed custom domain at webs or elsewhere.

Yes, you are able to upload files to this site, or, as DeadTomGC explained, upload the files to mediafire and post a link here. The advantage of posting here is you'll get a lot more feedback than if you just post it on your website.

Look at some of the previous "What hosting package should I use" threads. I use HostGator and I've never had any problems with them, but you'd probably run into some issues if you started a really big website with them. The best month on my website got about 400 unique visitors, and had about 6.7 gigs bandwidth used. I think it got that high just from me publicizing stuff on these forums, posting animated gifs, hosting a save game so I could download it on a friends computer, and other stuff like that. So I'd say "hostgator is fine". I've heard other people say they disagree, but for a small website I'd say it's hard to go wrong.

[edit]
and I'm not sure whether it's worth the $10 per month. I'm definitely not making money off of it, but it comes out of money that would go to games, and I get experience coding in PHP/html/css/javascript. Plus I think being able to ssh into a server is pretty cool xD

I would recommend putting the url of your website in your profile so that all your posts will have a link to it.

BTW your software looks like it could save me A LOT of time.
