When i run this code i only get a dark screen with a faint blue color where the water would be on the map. I have tried other ways but get a white screen. Can anyone please look at this code and tell me what I am doing wrong.

You marked out backdrop on ('), but I not think it is the problem.

Another thing, when loading your media, I would advise you to do it like this, then it will work in different install paths on other computers than the one you develop it on.

Then it will find the files from where your .exe is located

Have you tried with backdrop off?
How about set sprite, try turning off backsave.

I can't seem to see where the tiles are actually pasted to the background within the drawMap function.

Also I'm not sure the function drawMap will correctly work when offsetX# and/or offsetY# is/are 0.0.

edit-

I tested the above code with a "paste image" rather than an "ink" in the function drawMap and had a tile placed in the upper corner of the map. I think you should look at this link for more information.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=185467&b=6 This loads a series of images from one image but the principal is the same.
