I very much look forward to it.
It is the one J.R tolken book I managed to read cover to cover and really want to see the movie.
(yes i know the lord of the rings is a classic novel, I just personally find J.R Tolken to be a little over wordy. I do not need scenes described to the level of detail he provides and it gets old quickly for someone with a vivid and malleable imagination)

I in no way intend to detract from him as a story teller, in that respect he is flawless and godlike...

bring on the hobbit, i cant wait to see it.

Sometimes I like to use words out of contents

I'll probably hate it, due to having listened to the audio tape by Martin Shaw hundreds of times and having made up my own imagery for it, the trailer doesn't do it justice. I also hate the fact that its a story being told by Bilbo, which is all wrong.

Where does it say that? The trailer is voiced over by Bilbo, and that's it. I, for one, wouldn't assume that the entire movie is voiced over by Bilbo because the trailer is.

You are not alone. Lord of the Rings is awful and the hobbits are incredibly gay, imo. I've never understood what people like about this series. The movies have cool scenery, that's about it that's good to me.

However, I'll probably see this movie in theaters and I have no idea why.

Like the other films I probably won't watch it because I can't sit and watch TV for a solid 6 hours or however long these films are, but it'll be interesting to see how this film performs in the box office.

It's still less gay than Harry Potter though, you have to admit.

Actually no I can't admit that. In fact I actually liked Harry Potter. The movies are just okay, pretty boring, but the books were great. LoTR's books were tedious and incredibly boring, I horribly struggled to finish them. There are also no hobbits in Harry Potter. And in my experience, every single person I've personally met that claims Harry Potter is gay, never read the books, sure there are exceptions, but I haven't met them yet... I've at least read the LoTR books! Wish I hadn't though.

I find that a little offensive for the obvious reason and because if you have multiple near death experiences then I'm sure you would grow attached to the person that you shared those experiences with.

I meant the movies. There's nothing more *'gay' than a bunch of posh stage school actors waving wands about.

Yes, but that's not why.

* I'm not talking about the homosexual kind of gay. It's just a term people use where I'm from.

Let's keep the post clean peps.

On topic, I myself read the books when I was younger and enjoyed them a lot. When the movies came out I thought that no one could have done better then Peter Jackson. The movies were good in my opinion, some of the best storytelling and cinematography in movie history.

Now that he is doing the Hobbit, I have complete confidence that this will be a truly epic set of movies.

On a side note, it was confirmed by JKR that Dumbledore was in fact gay. They even dropped hints in the HBP movie.

I think the movie will be good, but I though the trailer was pretty bad. It was kind of all over the place and ended on a weird note. I think they just wanted to show that all your favorite characters from the Lord of the Rings are back.

I don't mean it will be narrated by Bilbo, I mean the movie is being told by Bilbo (without narration). Would have been a lot better to just leave out the characters from Lord of the Rings that do not appear in the Hobbit, like old Bilbo, Legolas etc. just have it play out as if the LOTR movies had never been made, because in all honesty, the Hobbit should have been made first.

//

Also, the elvish dagger in the trailer looks more like a proper short sword and looks pretty hard to hide inside his britages

Yeah figured as much lol. I can accept that lol. Personally don't think wizards are even close to the same level of gay as the hobbits are but I can understand it lol.

Awesome to see Martin Freeman getting a big role, he is an amazing actor and appears to be good as Bilbo. Not to mention the inclusion of the highly underrated James Nesbitt. It seems to be an amazing cast hopefully it is an amazing movie as-well and more then likely it will.

Best part about this trailer?

Not a whisper towards showing it in 3D. It probably will be, but it doesn't need to flaunt that fact to let people know it's awesome.

Lol...it is being shot in 3D, checkout the Hobbit vblog. The last one he posted talked all about how they are shooting in 3D, but he's actually doing it right!

Here's the link.

Yeah I read somewhere it was going to be 60 FPS. Nice!

The spiders and the dragon will make or break the movie for me. Talking animals need to be done right.

And Freeman is going to be good as Bilbo. He already did the part of bewildered traveler out-of-place in Hitchhikers.

Yep. I think the thing that a lot of people don't realize about LOTR is that it's more than just goblins and fantasy. My parents still refuse to even glimpse at it because they just think it's mindless violence, but it's not. I think this scene, one of my favorites, explains really what LOTR is about (Spoiler alert!!!):

Anyway, to each his own

Watched it ...boring ....as the whole trilogy is anyway.

There was 1st part on TV few years ago, I tried to watch it but after 45 minutes I just wanted to kill myself. I just don't find it interesting at all.

Few years before the movies were planned i tried to read a LOTR book ..... I almost killed myself on the first page .....just boring

At least you tried, more than I can say for most people. The books are very detailed and occasionally boring, but I still really enjoyed them. I guess I just really love fantasy

Some people just don't have the brain mass and attention span to hold onto and appreciate some works of art.

Thankfully, there's a new Michael Bay movie coming out that features a half-assed plotline loosely based on a toy, aliens and lots of shiny explosions. Should be more your thing.

There are a lot of things that I suppose can compare to Marmite.

I'm a fan of the LOTR stuff... Just not looking forward to a 2 year wait to see all of the Hobbit.

If you have that kind of attitude, you're better off on IMDB, where everyone thinks he's the best movie critic of the entire world.

Disliking a movie doesn't make you any less intelligent than other people, and assuming that is immature, utterly fanboy'y and downright silly.

I love looong and slow-paced movies of all kinds, but I didn't like LOTR as well - so what?

I thought so for a minute, but since there was no emoticon, it came across more serious; at least to me... may be the bad influence of the IMDB comment boards.

LOTR isn't for everyone...nor is anything. I liked it, but can't say I've ever tried reading the books and it's probably a long way off from being my favourite film. To each his own, as they say.

Sadly people do have baseless opinions about things, but their close mindedness means they could be missing out. Their loss.
