Hey, just wondering if anyone could suggest a good 2D graphics media software. Something similar to cosmigo's pro-motion, supports animation and good pixel art functions. Right know Im using the Pro-motion 6.5 trial, so...that wont last forever. I was hoping for something that's freeware, and easy to use.

Thanks in advance!

Here are all of the ones I've heard of:
-Gimp
-Paint.net
-GraphicsGale
-TileStudio
-InkScape

I personally use Graphics Gale and Tile Studio.

Graphics Gale doesn't have a huge variety of tools but I find it very easy to use. Paint.net isn't too bad but I don't use it because I was lucky enough to get a free copy of Corel PaintShop Phot pro X2 to do any further editing.

I always use GIMP. It's free, easy to use and there are loads of free brushes and plugins out there. Deviant art is a good source...

Wow, Tile Studio has some really nice drawing tools that I have never seen before. I'm looking at the tutorial and it's amazing how simple and quick it is to draw what would otherwise take me far longer and look much worse. You can use this software for a lot of things. It also has a level editor which might be useful.

Use Paint Shop Pro It's the only tool I know where all the gadgets are!

I drink tea, and in my spare time I write software.

I'm currently looking at anime studio pro 8. It looks really nice.

I haven't tried pro-motion though, gonna check that out

Tilestudio is really nice but alpha support is limited. You choose a color to be transparent, and you export it and that color is converted to alpha.

But it exports an animation to png with transparency that can easily be used by AGK.

I use:

PC

Gimp 2 (free)
Art Rage 2.6 ($20)
Genetica Pro (£80.99)

iPad

Sketchbook Pro (£2.99)
Art Rage (£4.99)
Flow paper (free)
iFontMaker (£4.99 and great for custom fonts)

Android Tablet

Sketchbook Pro (£3.18)
SuperNotes (free with Asus EEE transformer pad)

Equipment

Dagi Stylus P507 (£24)

I tend to do alot of quick sketches, designs and drawing on my tablets, which I then tidy up and convert using Gimp 2 there's just some stuff you can't do with a mouse, and I'm too cheap to buy a proper LCD graphics tablet.

Anyway hope some of these give you an idea.

I use PaintShop Photo Pro X3 for most of my artwork, and I'm really happy with that program. Also Painter Photo Essentials 4, CorelDraw 7 (the complete suite), CorelDRAW Essentials 5, Gimp, and others.
I've tried quite a few programs, and they all have their cons/pros. But, the ones I just mentioned are the ones I like best.
Best advice I can give, is try out a few, see which one(s) you prefer, and then master them.

Cheers
