My suggestion: Put more thought and time into your posts and don't treat the forum like an instant message.

I dont see you as an annoyance. I have seen mods get pretty mad at you for simply not writing enough in your posts, personally i believe that was unfair of the mods to do (i dont know the entire story however) and anyway, i think people have made you think you are more annoying than you really are... However it is true what has been said above, put more thought and detail into your posts and do post threads at a lower rate...

Edit

Ok i looked at your threads and yes, i agree with the mods now...

Slayer, if I could give you one peice of advice it would e to think about what you say before you say it. I mean... Why would you come onto an indie developers forum and claim to be the next Infinity Ward when your games look like they were thrown together in a half hour. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you have a good heart in real life but you got to know the time and place to comment or post.

Oh, and some more things... Don't post so many damn threads. I think you've set a new record around here. Why not just start one thread called "Slayers Questions" or something. And another thing is, please try not to sound like a ten year old in your comments... I know you may find it a bit hard but put some thought into what you are saying.

That's my 2 cents... Take it or leave it. Maybe it would be best if you took a weeks vacation from the forum to cool down after all.

Cheers,
Anayar

You mean you don't think he's as great as Infinity Ward?!

Slayer...
Just slow down. That's my advice for you... Slow down everything you do entirely.

Posting messages about leaving doesn't help. Search for other leaving posts over the years. Even valued members who had been here ages have looked like numpties for going on about leaving the boards. Infact what happened to the original Slayer?

Cheers

What anayar said, aaaand...

Srsly, I looked at your history and...yeah. Still, I wouldn't say you're disliked from the threads I've read. I think a few people have prolly sat back when they've read a post and facepalmed your words. But I'm sure a few people have done the same to me XD --- Just as I'm sure they've done it to one another. Anonymity is like alcohol, it can dis-inhibit you and make you say/do things without thinking as there are no or little social repercussions in RL.

I, personally, wouldn't dislike a person for the things you've done. I've come across far more annoying people in my short time as a member. Some people who literally keep posting pointless comments in every thread they can for whatever motive (Attention-seeking? Advertising their "awesome" game/site? Boredom? Trolling?). Then there are those - and we all know them - who's philosophy in life is "Why bother learning to code when I can just keep on asking for help at every turn?". When I see people like that ("give me teh codez" people), I often just give them teh codez or the most simplified version that'll work just to stop them bumping their "help me with my game" thread. You can always tell who tries and who doesn't. Still, I'm never rude to them either way. And on that note of politeness: If somebody flames you, don't flame them back or react aggressively. Quite often it's a simple misunderstanding, sometimes it's trolling and on the occasions that they are just being nasty, rather ask yourself why first. If you are truly not at fault, there's a "report abusive post" button, use it.

BTW: Should we petition the bosses to give Slayer267 a "Highest Thread-poster" badge?

PS: Oh yeah, there's one more annoying type I left out: The verbose poster. Nothing is more annoying than the guy that posts lengthy messages that could be truncated into 3 sentences *large, flashing, green arrow appears above my head*. That guy is.... Soooo frustrating. He should stop and summarise before hitting the "Post Message" button but he won't because he doesn't mind a laugh at his expense now and then.

And this is less annoying?
I am sorry if i sound like an idiot but seriously, just take what those wise men before me said into account.

Just dont go make an 2IMMAH LEAVNI NAOW" thread as soon as you meet some resistence.

Toughen up kid.

I'd say, as already said, slow down a bit and listen to people but also try not to be immature about anything. I think in your 'trailer' thread you refused to listen to somebody's comments because they were a little abrasive despite the fact both 'abrasive' people made out they weren't out to offend. Generally when people make criticisms they are out to help, whether it's tough love or not.

I know tough love isn't pleasant, it may be harsh but it's not meant to put you down. If somebody is overly harsh, you're welcome to point it out but of course, it doesn't invalidate any points they were trying to make and I think if you ignore them it might be you who loses out. I am of the opinion that people should take criticism regardless of its form.

I can see you're enthusiastic about making games, you know what? That's fantastic! Use it, take advantage of it and go and create! But also gain feedback whilst you're in the FPSC section of the forums and allow it to give what you're doing more direction and allow yourself to improve upon that. I think at the end of the day here, we're all equals and as for any works in progresses, we just stick them in the appropriate WIP section.

To be perfectly frank, I don't think there's any reason what-so-ever to want to leave, everybody is welcome here, but there's the advice up there. Also, if you're worried about a thread being clutter try the thread called "The Posting Competition", it was created for the sole purpose of reducing clutter and people post all sorts in there and people do reply if there's reason enough for them to reply.

Somebody called my name?
I think, having such a title for a thread could be misleading, as there are a few members here that have 'slayer' in their name. Sometimes I get the feeling that people take me for someone else.

As for teh topic, hum...I haven't seen or followed all of your posts/threads, but I'd suggest to man up, and take the advice given. Growing up is part of the deal, and not give up just because of some misunderstandings or different opinions.

Eat well, exercise and get plenty of sleep.

There are lot's of annoyances here, including me at times. (no comments necessary) There's no need to leave. Everyone has an adjustment period when the come here, especially if it's their first forum experience as it was mine. Just take the advise of seasoned forum users and put it to good use.

Don't take the easy way out and change your name. If you do that now, you'll be doing it every time you have problems.

Brian.

Don't be daft!

I think Xplosys raises an excellent point. I'm sure EVERYBODY has something that's annoying on here and I've seen people get picked up on it, most of the time we just deal with it or address it. Yes, there's advice you might wish to take, but to be honest, I don't think you've done anything that bad. Yes, you've had a few threads locked, but as if that matters. Live and learn as a I like to say.

If you leave then I will REALLY, REALLY be annoyed, I'll be fuming and my ears will literally be blowing out steam (and probably rendering me deaf in the process), so if ANYTHING, that should convince you to not leave.

Being annoying never stopped me.

But in all seriousness, do you know what I find most annoying about your posts? This... when you talk using elipsis... like all the time... like you have no idea what your saying... and everything just hangs weirdly in air... kinda irritating... then it just trails off...

The other annoying (and probably more pertinant) thing is that you argue with criticism. This is never going to get you anywhere. I looked down your last thread, and litteraly the whole thread is people giving you advice, you disregarding it, people pointing some more stuff out, you arguing, the topic getting locked. You need to listen to what people are telling you. We all get a bit down when it turns out our work isn't as good as we thought it was, but you're never going to improve unless you take other people's opinions into account and take steps to improve.

To be fair, about 50% of the "criticism" in that thread was just plain old unconstructive bashing, don't you think? On the other hand, I do find it good that people on here at least give their honest opinion

The Slayer, you should make less new threads and direct all of that info into the posting competition.

Oh man, reality check time.

This is an online forum for indie developers. We aren't your friends, we aren't each other's friends, we dont have relationships with each other, we dont care about each other. As much as you might believe that you and user19241 are best friends because you discussed an interesting topic or competed in some forum modeling competition, it just isn't the case.

If you do or say something stupid or otherwise immature (IE "I will be the next major [insert game dev company name here]") and you get some flame for it, you learn from your mistake and you put it behind you. You dont get depressed and write a goodbye post because a few people you'll never meet in your entire life and will most likely not even remember this time next year lashed out at you and you felt embarrassed. You forget about it, and you move on.

If you want to leave the forums for a bit because you feel you're being "annoying" then you probably are being annoying, but posting about it just serves to annoy people more. Grow up, leave the forums for a bit if you want to leave the forums for a bit, or don't. This is social etiquette 101; if you annoy someone else or say / do something to embarrass yourself, you sit back and look at what you did to cause that consequence and ask yourself "was I wrong or were they?". If you were wrong, you avoid doing what you did in the future and move on.

What you need to realize is because we're not a "family" or even remotely connected to each other past these forums, if you were to leave for a bit and come back I can guarantee you nobody would notice you left, nobody would sit back and say "Gee, I'm sure glad that slayer guy isn't around making those posts today", just the same as nobody would say "Darn I sure miss that slayer guy".

Forums are simple:

1. If someone makes an interesting post, others will tend to read that user's posts.

2. If someone makes a pointless or otherwise stupid post, others will ignore that user's posts.

3. If someone continues to make pointless or otherwise stupid posts, others will flame that person in hopes of having them stop making pointless or otherwise stupid posts and distracting them from the more interesting posts.

So... Ill reiterate what others have said;

Think before you post.

Flame

Don't really see a point in this thread other then to grab more attention. The MODs have clearly stated why your threads have been locked. Everyone is just repeating these points.
