Hello game creators,

I know that this community is more software based, but there's gotta be some computer hardware experts around here, so here we go:

To keep this short, whenever the base of my laptop near the fan touches anything (including the little rubber "feet") and the cooling fan turns on, I hear this loud grating noise. It keeps going until it the fan stops running. The only way to prevent this is if I hold it by the monitor or if I put something under the corner that can also hold it only by the monitor. The computer is about two years old, and has seen some use. I only recall this problem occuring when I started putting my laptop on my lap about six months ago. Whenever I would hear the sound, I'd move my legs so that the laptop's edges (where the rubber feet are) would rest on my legs. Now, it happens all the time

How critical an issue is this? Should I take it in to a computer hardware store right away? Or will it fine for awhile?

Thanks!

Hmm, my guess is that for whatever reason, whenever something touches that part of the laptop, it pushes together the two plastic halves of the casing and perhaps that causes one of them to touch the fan, creating the noise. If that were the case, i would not be too concerned if it sounded like the smooth part of the fan was grinding but if the blades were grinding i would be concerned. Another thing to possibly worry about is if it slows the fan too much, your comp may not be able to adequately cool itself... Not sure about how to fix something like that though... Best of luck!

Hello Dark Basic Dude79! Thanks for the tip. It probably is the casing, as it only responds to pressure... but I should probably have it looked at anyway. Thanks again!

Sure! Makes sense that it would be the cause!
