Hi all I know some out there would not want to put this update on there machines, but a few games I have the companies seem to require that its done if I would like more support.

So here rub, when I ask the update thing to do it job apart from taking ages, it will either blue screen the system or moan about the download not being on the drive or is corrupted.

I have even download the stand alone version and also put in on a cd but it still will not do the job sometime get to the last quarter of the loading bar when it will either fail or BSD.

I put hotfixes and other stuff, even been to MS them self but after some time, they ask me to ring a number only to find that the guy on the other end was not to help full, get to the point that it might be your board, check with your manufacturer.

so to help here some info from speccy.

So anyone got any ideas on what to try next.

maybe try a fresh install, update should be easy, i've never had an issue

maybe check your hard drive for bad sectors, that can cause random issues and bsods.

If you're getting BSD's, then it might a good idea to run a ram diagnostic.

When you doing this install of sp1 are you also running other updates?

I remember when I installed sp1 with a host of other updates it would do the updates and stop working. Had to do a system recover to get back. After a few tries I did sp1 only and it worked.

Not saying this will work just worth a go.

I'll add something later on.

well think i tried that idea as I know I let it do all the updates need just to make go, then tried sp1 on its own with no other update applied. think i tired 2-3 time but even then it either bsd or failed.

would be great if I could get hold of the file that it tries to download and then run that.

well if nobody can come up with any other ideas, I'll probably put it on the back-burner and save up the green stamps and go buy a more up to date system.

edit
I remember using some dos command that check windows to check if put in right, anyone know what it called? might sfc?

not sure if there are any different switches for windows 7,, but the command you are looking for from the prompt is

sfc /scannow

Make sure you launch cmd.exe as an administrator (Win7/Vista)

I'm not a real programmer,, I just play one on the Forums.

Well sp1 has installed its self, but has now switched gadgets off so how do turn them back on.

done this so far :-

double click gadgets in control - fial does not do anything

taken gadgets off and put back on with windows add or remove windows bits - fail

turned view for gadgets off then on -fail

so those are out of the way what do I try next?
