I was wondering if the 3D lights will interact with 2D images? Probably not, but I just wanted to make sure.

If not, what would be the best way to get nice looking lighting for a 2D game? Thinking RPG here... Transparent image files perhaps? But they won't interact with other "objects" very well.

See if Axbreeze works for you. The sprites are drawn in 3D space interacting with light. A dynamic shadow can also be created on a terrain.
