Hi.

What are the different approaches to sell your games? I'd like to hear with you, and also with this thread encourage each other to strive for this. Cuz I belive that here is a place on the net where this is dreams for many, and perhaps reality for some.

For me my situation is this: I surely lack the time needed to make games, it's very time consuming, and that I don't have a lot of since I have a full time job and a family that takes up most of my time.

But ofcource, a little time is left for the fun! I've got a website up and running where I let people download games for free and make a donation if they want. Check it out here:

I have still much to learn, and I'm alone, so it is hard for me to deliver killer games. But I do my best!

What are you guys up to? Air your thoughts and ideas here. Making games is fun! Don't you agree?

Best!

Well I'm finishing my senior year of High School, so I have tons of time on my hands which I mostly spend working on Death. It has been a little more than 5 months since I've started and I, surprisingly, have not lost interest! I'm hoping to get it finished in the summer and if I do then I'm thinking about selling it on Desura. However, for now game making and programming is a combination of a hobby and building up experience for college and future career.

On the selling side of games, I think Desura or Steam (If your game is top notch) would be the best options. Then joining various forums to spread the word would be a good idea, and telling your friends about it. Facebook could also be a good avenue to get your game out there.

Yep, I don't know what I would do instead programming for fun

Well I am planning several games, but unlike heyufool1 I have very little time on my hands at the moment because I am in college taking 18 credits. (Mostly math and engineering) My plan for these is (when they are done) make them free but give people the option to donate which will give them some special badge or item (depending on the type of game) that would Identify them as a donator and give some idea of how much they actually donated.

Now I am in college so I'm not too concerned about making a living off the games. So, I want to have them 100% free yet still make working on them worth my time. If you want to make a living off it TF2's strategy is quite effective.

But probably the most important thing is getting people to play your game. So I would simply focus on putting it in a place where people will find it if they go looking for a free game to play.

So, ya there are a lot of sites out there that host information on games like this and you'll want to get on as many as possible.

Oh ya, and there are a lot of youtubers with a good following that would like to present a game like yours, so you could send some one like that a message about it.

unfortunately, no. some people just seem to think that nothing new needs to be made and that nothing needs to be changed.

Yes. The most important thing is to make people play, and gain knowledge about the game's existance. I'm working on a new game right now, don't know when that one will finish.

Youtube is a good option to put trailers and maybe gameplay videos since youtube is visited by a lot of people daily, so I'm sure someone will find the video.

Thanks for all the advice

This thread was added by TGC on Facebook, just thought you might want to know

I agree Game Making is for fun but for some [me included] a dream come true...

Would I like to make games for a living... OH YES! [points imaginary gun at that annoying dog from the adverts]

Making games... well its not a game is it?
To me a game is no different than a novel or movie... you are portraying [even arcade games come on? Street Fighter anybody?---it has a movie well several spin off too including Tekken for you young uns in here] a story in your own dimention and fantasy world and you strive to portray it to the same effect you imagined it... thats how you set your completion point... that game is not ready until it looks just like this...

I think some forget they can always sell through their own websites... and thats also critical for customer base interaction... so dont forget it even if you make it onto Steam or erm that intel thing...

I can not wait to see what others write here...
