So I got a PS Vita at launch and I love it! It's amazing what handhelds can do now. Loving Uncharted on it.

But... I really want to play Pokemon White/Black, Zelda and Harvest Moon and 3DS are $200 at the moment. It's my Birthday today so I've got a bit of extra cash so that's not really a problem.

Reasons for getting/not getting one?

If you're not to bothered about the 3D effect (Read some reviews on it, apparently it's not too great.) then you could always save some money and go for a preowned DSi or even the older DS lite, depends what you want from it reall.y

I never use the 3D on my 3DS, but I'd still recommend it. There's plenty of awesome new games already out, or coming out (Resident eEvil: Revelations, Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion 2, Tekken 3D, Mario Kart 7, Kingdom Hearts, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, Rayman Origins) and the E-Shop is finally getting new 3DS games and virtual console stuff.

I might pick one up this week then. There isn't a new Gameboy coming out anytime soon, right? Wouldn't want to get a 3DS if a new one is coming in a few months haha

The DS line are basically the new gameboy's. I haven't seen one released for like 10 years now, so no, there won't be a new gameboy out.

I have a 3DS, got it for Zelda OoT. Don't play on it at all any more, waste of money really.

The 3DS is, from what I've seen and used, a pretty good portable system. If you liked the other Nintendo DS portable systems, than you'll really like it as it's got some nice features that are worth it. My only complaint, is ironically directed at the 3D, the effect REALLY looks like, but it gives you a headace after a while. If you wait a bit I think that someone will make a Nintendo DS emulator for the VITA.

I'd recommend a 3ds. If not for the awesome games that are already out or the ones that are coming out, I'd just get it for the eShop. There are some really classic games that you can download and most of them are worth it.

Also, concerning the 3d effect: I've used mine on half the maximum 3d for hours at a time before, and you definitely get used to it. Full on 3d might be a little straining for long periods of time, but you get just as good of an effect from the switch being half-way up. Most games look great without the 3d anyway.

The 3d is mainly a gimmick to get more sells. I bought it for the awesome portable games and the yummy widescreen with higher resolution. Better hardware inside it as well, so, I'm pretty content. There's a 3d camera as well.

The 3DS isn't just a DS with 3D. There's plenty of new hardware additions, as well as plenty of awesome games out or coming out.

Also, if you get a 3DS, definitely get the Nyko PowerPak+ it does a great job of extending the battery life.

Okay, thanks for replies! I think I might go and get a 3DS and a game tomorrow if I get the chance. I'm going away for a few days this week so that will give me an excuse to play it

I thought I might regret getting a Vita but I don't, so I probably can't go wrong getting a 3DS for half the price of a Vita haha

I like my 3DS. I think the 3D effect adds a lot to games. I play at half strength as at full it hurts my eyes within minutes...

Resident Evil on the 3DS is a great game, imo.

I did also purchase the Vita last week. I am amazed by it. It is amazing... The touch screen is responsive, everything looks amazing on the OLED screen.

If you are into gaming and have the disposable income, then getting both is probably a good thing.

i bought my little sister a blue 3ds and the only game i enjoy out of it most is "Face Raiders". i love those augmented reality stuff.
