First scene: a guy finishing off a massive Word document when he gets a BSOD,so he throws the computer through the window/smashes with hammer.

Second scene: Repairman with the company name shirt and a screwdriver shows up and goes "dont worry,we will fix it"

mad guy: "but i dont want to pay a lot of money"
repairman: "we do it cheap, professionaly and fast!"

[repairman opens pc,does some screwing, closes, turns on the pc,works]

mad guy: "You saved me,thanx!"
repairman: "No problem!"
[computer BSOD's again in the background]
THE END

Charger Bandit's idea is pretty good, but make sure to punish the user for the stupidity that caused the BSOD.

But really, just show some legit fixes, one up the geek sqaud.

Lastly,
This seems unlikely to me

And to add: The word document was somehow magically saved!

Although I and I'm sure most of the people here are experienced enough to cringe at the dumb-down computer talk.

But, I have to be honest. For the majority of the people out there,, and that's a large percentage of who your customer base will be, commercials like "My Faster PC" make sense to them. It relates things in their terms. And while it may seem annoying or not technically leet and cool, It works.

I'm not saying copy their commercials... just saying to remember "What's cool, or simple to us... is not the same as what your potential customers respond to."

We have decided to go with a cartoon and some "in game" video demo's to show people our software products etc. Still working out the details for the storyline. I think what we will ultimately do though is run two seperate commercials. One for PC repair and one for software development/office solutions. I think that might be best and avoid confussing the consumer.

I think you should have a bunch of lifelike software, and then be all like, "NOPE old school".

Sometimes a little fuss can be okay, but confuss? Don't want that.

But honestly, what's your angle here? If you're targeting the "normals" zenassem probably takes you down the correct route. Also, what do you mean by cartoon? Doesn't that boost the budget a lot?

Engineer says: Sir that is not a PC it is a Mac

Man says: I did not order any burger can you fix it or not?

Engineer says: Just as soon as I drive by

Man says: I said I did not order a burger...

@VanB - I am just thinking about locking this thread and wanted to give him a last ditch effort to give us a bit more detail. I know perfectly well that the chances are slim he'll reply, and then we can lock due to overcrowding the Geek Culture forum with countless ridiculous threads. Let's wait and see

Well currently we only have a few software products worth throwing in a advertisement. So the first commercial to air will be for Pc repair or small business custom software solutions. If we showed office solutions, I would like display our tech tool and genric digital application. But were already known locally for PC repair. So were still trying to figure it all out/decide what would be the best route. At this time I think PC repair would be best but I want to push software solutions locally. So kinda torn.

You have 2 options

toss a coin 3 times and let fate decide for you

best out of three always does the trick

[but make sure the coin is not twin faced lol]

EDIT

Well to be frank also the PC Repair if you have enough customers already should be your main course of marketing to attract more new clients and keep your income steady... then develop the software when you have more to show for it

I have a computer shop and precisely the same situation however I have shut up shop for a month for refurbishing...

well the problem is we have a good steady client base for repair but we want to break away from repairing machines and break into software. But on the flip side it would be unwise to drop pc reapir and go all in on software. Software sadly takes a lot of time to develop and has little return compared to pc repair. So it almost feels like a catch 22 at times when comparing.

well... keep the repair service... take on an extra hand if needed... theres a cheap way to do it too... employ a youth as you can legally pay them less

in the UK its like 15-18 a set figure or something like that and then 18-25 a certain amount and then above 25 the max minimum wage per hour... someone will correct me on this eventually as I am running from memory of several years ago now...

But yeah theres more than one way to develop software to ensure future income...

quick examples include... if they want exclusive rights to the software... charge them your estimated value for a period up to 10 years.. or five to be fair... and if they refuse to buy the rights of the software then you can keep resell rights to rework the projects for other clients... so think laterally not linear [remember to contract and paperwork everything!!!]

hope this helps you move foreward...

also you can sell for cheap... but charge for updates too

so look at your income possibilities and expand on them any idea is an idea...

Always happy to help motivate you when needed and if you need someone to talk to about this... you got me and this forum anytime
