edit Sorry. That garbage in the title of the thread was suppose to be the Mathematical similar/approximately symbol. ≈

Just wondering if there is anything similar to dbpro for browser-based game dev??? I'm only looking to do 2D games/apps so it doesn't have to be as powerful as pro,, I'm more or less looking for something similar to dbpro's syntax.

I've tried making browser-based games with flash,, and I will admit not only was I not good at it... I didn't really enjoy the dev process of using flash (flash 8 when i worked with it) + action script (IIRC some things worked with ActionScript 1.x and other things with ActionScript 2.x

Maybe I just didn't get it,, but it felt more like making a movie with with logical jumps to frames. (Best way I can explain what I was doing). I know a little html4 and javascript,, but have no experience with html5 and my html4 is severely limited due to how long ago I used it and the fact that I stopped coding the html "by-human" once I got into DreamWeaver MX 2004,, then I only edited the html when It was faster than something that I didn't know how to do inside DreamWeaver.

Now,, If I understand correctly,, but AppGameKit is targeted towards mobile OS's like iOS, Android etc... Now is there something in the works through TGC, or anything else out there that is targeted towards browser-based game dev?

Thanks!!!

Going by http://www.appgamekit.com/platforms-and-features.php it looks like they are planning on HTML5 and Java support. If you don't want to wait then you can look into Game Maker HTML5 but it cost $100 and may still be in beta stages, though I may be wrong.

Nothing necessarily,, I came from a C/C++ background but never delved into java. I guess I'm afraid that it 'looks' just similar enough to C to screw me up. lol. I know that's a weak excuse... but perhaps I need to get over that mental block.

www.flixel.org

It's basically just coding in actionscript3, and has a huge library of functions for making games really easily. For quick, to-the-web flash games, where you don't need to ever deal with the annoying aspects of Flash, it's perfect.

Also, ex-TGC dude Richard Davey is pretty clued in on all that stuff. he's made some sweet extensions for it.

It's definitely worth a look.

Unity3D's looking to support Flash soon, plus if the user has Unity's player they can already play browser based games.

Java uses a C based syntax. As does C++, C#, OOC, JavaScript, PHP, the list goes on. Might be something you want to work on overcoming?

Anyway, perhaps you could do something with DHTML? I've seen some cool stuff done with it in the past! (Example A)
