Just a quick post about my new minecraft server, its just gone live so I thought I would let you guys get first access:

Brand spanking new, but there are a few areas that still need working on, but its fully operational! So if you want to get in on the ground floor of a new server, then come join us!

No addons needed, and there is no whitelist.

Server runs an addon called factions, which essentily creates a giant game of risk on the server.
You can claim areas of land to stop people griefing!

@Indicum - so I guess you're "xkarloox" in-game?

So far I mostly played Singleplayer survival on my own, but it often gets boring after some time... Same when I tried a bigger server, most of the map around the spawn was other people's land...

This 'factions' mod is really interesting, how people can claim land and defend it, and form alliances / make enemies Will see how that works out with more people. Although I still need to understand how exactly the 'power' of a group and the players is determined, and how that affects their claimed land... is there a description or wiki or something about that mod? The ingame command's help is not too extensive.

Edit: Is this the official page for that plugin, perhaps?
Edit2: Okay the FAQ on that page is for server admins, but the description of the chat commands and how the territories & power thing works is helpful

What are the server settings for regenerating power when online / losing power per 24h offline here, BiggAdd?

Yes thats the factions mod page! I've set it so you don't regenerate power when offline, and also that you leave your faction after 7 days of inactivity.

These settings can change though if people feel its a bit too tough. Also the server is on hardcore mode, and a lot of people are dying! So this could change too

Hopefully see you guys soon! I think I've struck a good balance with the economy, It seems Indicium's faction got set up pretty nicely!

Fortunately not! Hardcore just means that more mobs spawn, your hunger bar depletes and mobs are tougher!
Its awesome sauce!

Why don't you like the game?

As for why I love it: It hits the creative spot in my head just fine, while blending social play and slight adventuring mixed with "horror" (some stuff is actually pretty scary, some.. and pretty)

Well first the graphics it don't have any it looks like a game from the 1980's.

second the game a ripoff of a game called Infiniminer.

third I just find the game very boring and pointless.

These are just my opinions and don't get me wrong I wish I had come up with the idea.

Just not my cup of tea at the end of the day and these sort of games are what I call fad games.

Something will come along and be the next fad while true classic games carry on forever.

I would rather play a good fps game like COD then minecraft but thats just me.

Respect to the writer/s of the game and they done very well for an indie game, if you enjoy it then thats all that matters.

lol yeah I mean like... I liked Black Ops... but COD whatever its called now was just lame... played it and put the controller down within a minute... [was on someones xbox...]

I however like to play BF3 however I UTTERRLY DETEST their server methods... it just ruins their games... take Battlefield Vietnam and BF2142 for example... they need to allow users to host their own games... [I may be wrong about BFV but still its impossible to play now...]

It's hardly a fad. People have been playing minecraft longer than they've been playing CoD: Mw2, CoD: Blackops and CoD: MW3 combined.

You sound just like my friend when he refused to try MineCraft just because teh grafix suckzz!, ters nö point wow lot of fun to push giant pixels around tis a **** ***. And guess what? He ranted and ranted about how gay the game is for a few weeks non-stop until he finally tried it. He's been addicted ever since.

If you try the game and say you don't like it, I'll happily accept that. Don't judge a book by it's cover, that's all.

Same goes for My Little Pony *runs off to avoid being punched*

@Indicium :- Cod games are a lot older than minecraft, I remb playing COD back in the days of the PS1. A fad takes about 5 years before it hit its peak then fades away so minecraft got a few years left yet.

Maybe it will end up not being a fad but it nowhere near like a classic like half life,Doom and other great games before it.

@TheComet :- I have played this game and didn't like it but I don't judge people who love it.

At the end of the day everyone is different, minecraft is def a popular game and there about 26,000,000 people playing it thats more than a lot of AAA titles.

So at the end of the day the people behind minecraft is doing something right.

The free verson is, the pay version isnt more of a rippoff of infiniminer than COD is of BF (or the other way around)

Games didn't have great graphics when I was a kid so I dont demand good graphics all the time def if the game is awesome like manic miner.

I just don't like minecraft like some people don't like facebook.

I must be missing something that all your people who love minecraft have.

Minecraft's not for everyone, but it's visually impressive, technically impressive, addicting and quite fun, so when people knock it's graphics and gameplay it leaves us wondering what they are talking about.

There's actually several HD mods for minecraft that bump it up to current gen style graphics.

Congratulations on getting a server. I don't play MC myself having never really got into it (although I do like the idea) but if I did I'd be sure to play on your server.

It's relative to time, surely. Back then we thought the graphics are great, and these days we think the latest games have great graphics, but in 10 years from now we'll think the graphics weren't so great.

So you hate it because you don't play it, but have read an article which has given reasons to hate it. The only real point that article makes is that it's not terribly user-friendly, which I think most of us can agree with. If you're basing your arguments all off a single web page you really need to open your mind.

@Benjamin :- U need to read the other posts before posting m8, I have played this game and in my view its not very good.

I was just pointing out a post that I agree with.

All my m8's the same age as me hate minecraft as well, I just feel it must be a age thing us older people prefer a good story line and puzzles in a game than mindless building rubbish for hours with no end game.

How times have changed.

I admit I'm oldskool I like good gameplay that make u think.

This is only my point of view I'm not saying Im right or wrong this game is just not up my street.

Lets stop hijacking this thread now and tlk about the server where i did say best of luck with.

the average player of lego starwars is most likely less than 10 and I still enjoy the crap out of it.

Yes I do enjoy COD games, not so much the newer ones but they still good games.

I'm more a fps gamer and my all time game has to be half life 2 for me but many may not agree.

Yes maybe that was a bit hollow but not once I didn't say it wasn't a good game its just a game I felt was a bit boring but like a lot of reviews say minecraft is what you make it.

I have more important things in life than play a game hours and hours just to build a house when I could be with a nice women watching a dvd.

My final thoughts.

1 Yes minecraft is a good game for its age group its aimed at.

2 If I had the time maybe I could get into minecraft more.

3 There seems a lot of love for minecraft and I respect your views.

I can honestly say I wasn't expecting a COD vs Minecraft debate! But saying that, I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition either, but they keep on showing up.
