Take a look at these screenshots.

Both builds have 8 GB of memory, decent dedicated video cards, good quad cores, same amounts of HD space, same monitors, and OS's. But...the prebuilt one a keyboard and mouse where the way more expensive one doesn't! I just don't get it when people say it's cheaper to build your own computer. Did I get it wrong? Or is it really more expensive?
Just a question...

Looks like you didn't add the case on, either.

I'm sure I did. Maybe I didn't include it in the pic. Or I really forgot. Ha ha.

I'm just meaning that that would add to the total price of building your own PC which would correlate with what you are saying about it being more expensive.

I built mine for cheap, but I also had Windows, the case, the mouse, the keyboard, and the monitors so it was cheaper for me to go this route.

You need to be flexible and go with the bargains. There are always special offer components on Ebuyer, for example. I've only built 3 PCs, but I've kept my options open when I've finally gone to buy everything, and often gone for a slightly lower spec component because it's half price at the time.

having built over 1.5k pc's I would have to say its not just cheaper...

its better... prebuilt rigs are very constrictive and often have the cheapest value parts... [where possible]

specially off the shelf like in a high street mega retailer like PCWorld or Currys or Wall Mart or whatever wherever you live...
they come loaded with gunk that will hinder your experience and true power potential... also having built it yourself brings about total comfort, as well as fear of failure, but the achievement of building it brings about motivation and shear love and care for your baby I mean computer...

you should see my rig... she is a beaut! [£1k+]
