Hi guys. I haven't been around here too much recently, but I've still been working on a lot of games for the past year or so. I've been part of a group of students trying to start up an indie game studio called Thunderfish Entertainment. We've just released our first game on XBox Live Indie Games, so I though I should share it with the community that really got me into game development in the first place .

The game is called Music Island. It's a rhythm-based arcade-style game where the player defends a small, tropical island from waves of sea creatures. It has a story/tutorial mode and a highscore mode, and five custom music tracks and generative melodies based that become more complex based on how well the player does.

The total development time was about seven months. The team was four people overall: one programmer (myself), one artist/game designer, one sound designer/composer, and one producer. The game was developed in C# with the XNA Game Engine and no other outside libraries. Overall, it went very well, and we're looking forward to released several more games in the future. You can read more about the development here.

Check out the trailer here!

The game is on the market as of this morning at XBox Live Indie Games, and you should all check it out . We're also giving out the trial version of the game for free on the PC, and you can get it here as an installer that will take care of everything, or here as an executable if you already have the XNA and .NET frameworks.

Though the game is done, we'd still love to have feedback from anyone who plays it - we're in this for the long run, and we definitely want to improve ourselves from game to game.

Congrats! Glad to see you finished your first game! Not really my cup of tea for a game, but I'm sure someone else would say otherwise.

Thanks, Travis! It's definitely interesting to see how players are reacting to the game with no prior conceptions about it - it's tough as a developer to know whether a game will appeal to different people. We just tried to make a solid game and we'll see what they say .
