I think bjadams was joking I'm sure this minor update will be free even if it does include some great new features. When we reach the point of AppGameKit 2.0 I can see it costing extra, especially if it includes 3D functionality.

Please get ads and in-app purchases working in 107. These two things are critical for monetizing apps in the major crowded app stores. Paid apps are an uphill climb these days.

That is how other SDKs work. They divide the supported platforms in Category A and B. First they do Category A which is the most important and later they do the others so users won't have to keep waiting 1 month for an update.

Not good news. Not good at all. How many more times is this going to be pushed back?

Perhaps this update was just too ambitious.

New features are great, but the benefits are being outweighed by the delay to bug fixes.

I for one would prefer a more incremental release policy.

I love updates haha also if things are done incrementally... then there is less to diagnose as you go along... but then again it would also depend on your review structure... if post development analysis is lengthy then putting a bunch of updates together would work out best however if post analysis is short and simple then incremental works best... so I suppose this is an important factor considering the amount of added updates...

and understandably upgrades [not updates] for existing users would be cheap max about 20% of RRP I think would be worth reinvestment...

I mean for users like me who are not actually taking full benefit sure higher upgrade price seems imporbable... but then if you are making a return on investment then you would justify the higher cost...

however the crucial factor here... do you devide your community base at such an early point in the software development? or allow for free access and simply up the retail price for new users and slightly alienate/penalise them...

Sorry for all that but I wanted to point out the underlying factors...

I have muuuuch more to say but I am time limited at the moment...

I sit looking at my phone... when is that software going to be updated... and also the apps... and also my desktop apps too...

I know its silly but, its similar to the emotion people receive on accomplishment of something...

Knowing something is still being worked on has a two way feeling...

Maybe a "nightly build" structure, or doing beta and stable versions might be a solution. it works for other sdks, so why not for agk?

in fact every product I have seen performing nightly builds freak the life out of me more often than not...

I am stuck with a dilemma. The new 107 will change the order of the way sprites are drawn on the same depth. I use this A LOT. So I was hoping to wait for 107 before starting something new, as I don't want to have to redo everything again.

I had to redo this when I tried the Playbook AppGameKit and it was one hell of a challenge to put all sprites back in the order they should be.

and bjadams, I agree, I am even holding back to even begin learning AppGameKit until network commands are expanded upon such as HTTP/FTP etc I have a fair few apps in mind already...

EDIT

For the record in my support and love for TGC I bought AppGameKit less than a month after launch just to see them making head way on it I am yet to learn to start from scratch I have never even done anything apart from broadcasting the samples to my phone, although I as usual dabbled around the menus and options... found them a little confusing though...

Anything would be better than nothing. Even information on what May or may not be on the cards.

For example, with the news that Ad support would be included in 107, I took the decision to follow this route for my main project.

Basic information such as how much room to allow for ad placement, and what limitations their inclusion brings, would allow me some progress.

But I'm reluctant to move forward too far for fear of having to revert back when the secrets of 107 are finally revealed.

It is difficult to say when it will all come together, any date I give you would just impose an arbitrary deadline on the rest of the team.

The ad commands will make use of existing ad APIs, like AdMob, so there will be a command like SetAdMobDetails for you to enter your account details, then a command CreateAd() which will probably only produce a 320x50 ad at the top or bottom of the screen with a visibility toggle, but details on that bit are still sketchy.

Thanks Paul.

Snippets like this might seem trivial to those in the know, but they give some idea of what is intended and allow for some planning.

I've spent the last couple of days screen grabbing various ad-based games to get an idea of how the ad space and placement varies, frequency of updates etc.

Now to look into the existing API's

I know we're getting HTTP commands, which is great as it should allow some form of limited Twitter integration using URLs, but is there any chance of us getting rudimentary Game Center support?

All I need is a command to open the Game Center overlay (which would happen when the user taps something) and to kick an integer value up to a Game Center leaderboard.

We're just finishing off some rather tricky Android JNI work, and then we can start pulling together some test versions of build 107. We are likely going to adopt a two class release for this update, with Windows, Mac, iOS and Android being released first, and then the other supported platforms on a class B release. This way you can have the new features sooner for the main platforms, rather than waiting for us to add the commands to ALL the platforms. Hopefully this meets with your approval

This definitely meets my approval as it will allow us to get our hands on the new commands quicker so we can start implementing them earlier. Once the other platforms are added it will be a matter of building completed projects for the other platforms.

Even for the developers its a good idea. They can get feedback on bugs, fix them, and then put the right version in Class B platforms
