Hello everyone, I’m currently looking for a Visual Basic Programmer who is interested in working on an educational project. The software as shown in the video will be developed primarily for educators.

Video Demo:
http://youtu.be/8h5M2DCgXxE

Description:
The main concept is to reduce the time the educator needs to take to grade a paper and simplify creating lesson plans etc. As you can see n the video the tool is self currently is mildly secure and mildly useful. The goal is to conduct more research and develop a generic educational tool for educators. We will first create several mock up versions to distribute to educators, receive feedback and then use that information to begin creating a final version/product line. Once the final version has been created, we will need to publish the software. I’m hopefully McGraw or other large name educational companies will pick up the software for resale.

The first product lines will cover Math: Addition, Subtraction, Fractions, Multiplication, division and pre-algebra. In the pre-algebra section, we will include a special section discussing order of operations for students and educators. This will help them better lecture and understand how the order of operations works. We may also include a special lesson on using variables by constructing a simple software program to demonstrate using variables in real life. A simple health system should be useful to explain variables and this lesson should stimulate interest.

Feedback:

If you are an educator and would like to share constructive feedback about the video; please post your feedback here to constructively to discuss the software. If you are not an educator, please email your feedback to us or post feedback some where else. This will help us separate feedback from non-educators.

Download:
If you would like to test the product in its current state, please feel free to download it from here.

I'm definitely sure educators are in the minority here, so wouldn't it make more sense that they email you?

Interesting. It would be cool if you made this, and made it cheaper than your competition. So far there are only 2 (that I know of) applications like this, and they are very expensive. The two I know are MyMathLab and WebAssign. Both are very advanced, yes. But they cost the students...and when your teacher makes it a requirement for a class...

I paid enough for WebAssign this semester to cover another book. So I was not ready for that expense and missed out on the first few days of homework until I got my paycheck from work.

Anyway, if you do it right and make it cheap. It could be pretty nice. Yeah, I'd do what Inaicium said and for the educator feedback I would go find some educators. Or, create a poll on your website with all of the information on it, and send it to your educator friends on Facebook with a generic thing. It could say something like: "Pass this on to any teachers you know." and go on about the software and ask them to take 30 seconds to vote.

My name is Brian.

Are you serious? I watched the whole video and thought you were making a parody or something. Is it for real? I can't envision a school paying for something like that.

And you can put me into the "non-educator" pile. I went to school, and all the teaching tools were online. Do schools use software to teach nowadays? It's been a long time since I was in elementary school, so I have no idea.

EDIT:

Since you're asking for feedback, wouldn't it make sense that the students have their own sign-in? Therefore the software wouldn't ask them what grade they're in. Also, there's no point in showing a grayed-out 'educator' menu when the student is using the software.

And what's the usefulness of having the student grade his work before he's finished doing the paper? Most of the online tools I used in University give you a score at the end, and they don't allow you to go back and keep redoing the same paper.

EDIT:

Are all those equations hard-coded? Surely the software should synchronize with a server somewhere to pull in questions that the teacher has devised. That's why I suggest doing it online.

And the whole rant about making less than minimum wage and the time it takes to grade doesn't fit into the video.

EDIT:

One last thing. How are the scores sent back to the teacher?

Yeah sorry Jeku we cant all release nothing and bash others/troll posts and be a worthless mod on TGC. Some of like to make software that helps people.

@Destrugter 1
Well I'm guessing roughly 20 to 30 per package. So far what Ive seen price wise as well it's fairly pricey.

Anyway Ill likely be ban now becuse Im honestly sick and tired of the staff abuse on this site. Mostly from Jeku and I know im not alone on this feeling. Maybe ther Terminator should terminate you as a mod lol mods in my book should offer good advice and be helpful. So please let me know when your helpful I'll be here all day.

@old_school - Quite a lot of maths papers in exams are not marked on how many questions the student has got right or wrong. Extra marks are given if the student is showing the correct method of working out answer although they have got the question wrong. Something like that might be needed in more advanced examination questions.

The video looks very basic and my thoughts would be to separate the questions to one to a screen and give some working out area.

The software can easily work out the correct answers and give 2 marks each but its up to the examiner to give 1 mark for correct workings out.

Mental arithmetic? Me? (That's for computers) I can't subtract a fart from a plate of beans!

I offered several suggestions and you blatantly disregard them. Perhaps post this kind of stuff in other forums where you'll get more of the attention you crave?

And for the record I didn't lock this

old_school I expect a similar response to this:

I am a teacher, and have been for many years. I know this software is in its early stages, but the functionality you showed in this video is available for free right now on numerous websites designed for teachers.

As for marking students work if you're marking it at the end of the lesson and not during the lesson (which is easy enough to do as you walk around the class) then how are you correcting misconceptions as they occur? It's too late to address problems after the lesson is over. I very rarely have to mark work at the end of the day due to the way I manage my classroom time. It's very different when it's comes to assessment time but that's only once every five weeks, and that only takes a couple of hours in front of the TV at best to finish marking, that is if I haven't finished it during my non-contact time, which is something all teachers get. You also have your GTMJs in front of you when marking the students work so it's easy to give the students the appropriate grade without spending hours of your time.

I plan my lessons based on the curriculum, so unless the questions you have designed meet the specific requirements for me (or any teacher) to get the desired lesson outcome then they are of no use to me other than as time fillers.

Finally, even if I did want to use your software, I am not allowed (as in completely unable to because of restrictions) to install or run any software which hasn't been purchased by the department of education.

EDIT
I also didn't lock this, and it wasn't locked when I started typing in my response.
