I just got a macbook pro today for ios development (T2) but now I need a device to test it on. Any suggestions on what device should I buy? Do I need a Iphone & ipad or just one? what about the ipod? I'm not trying to go broke just want a simple device for test.

iPod Touches are an affordable way to test with relative accuracy how your app will appear on iPhones since they share the same resolution and most characteristics. I have an iPod Touch 3 (for non-retina display testing) and iPod Touch 4 (for retina display), as well as the first iPad.

Since they came out with the iPad 3, Apple is selling iPad 2s relatively cheaply. 'Relative' being the operative term.

I found out that gamespot is selling cheap used apple products. I think I'm gonna go with the iPhone3gs 8g. It's only $80. Does it matter what generation the device is?

I would choose the ipod touch! the thing is with being a new app developer for apple is the struggle of publishing your app. If you have any trouble publishing an app just ask about it on the forum and I can help you. I did do tier1/tier2 and publishing an app for the first time was almost as hard as making the app, lol. Good Luck, cheers!

I suspect it is your device (http://www.appgamekit.com/faq.php#q29):
