Hey guys,
I recently installed Windows 8, and I HATE it. I want to reinstall Windows 7, but apparently Windows 8 has rendered Acer eRecovery useless. I have an eMachines E525. If anyone could help it would be extremely appreciated.

You will need to backup and reinstall windows 7 from disk.

Okay this is a long shot but check system restore and see if you have one before windows 8

Edit: Straight from there site

No. To go back to your previous version of Windows, you'll need to reinstall it from the recovery or installation media that came with your PC; typically DVD media. If you don’t have recovery media you might be able to create it from a recovery partition on your PC using software provided by your PC manufacturer. Check the support section of your PC manufacturer’s website for more information. After you install Windows 8, you won’t be able to use the recovery partition on your PC to go back to your previous version of Windows.

Any computer I've bought in recent years with an OS already installed has had a recovery partition rather than an installation disk. It has the same functionality, you just need to boot from that partition. Then follow through the installation process for Windows 7.

This thread can be locked, I got an install disc from my uncle, which didn't work, but it removed enough of windows 8 for me to access the recovery partition again. I have windows 7 back, and I am not going to use 8 when it's out.

Just to point out, that's the dev version on windows 8, not the final release. So bugs and alike will be fixed and the nav system is getting a overhaul too

Having never used Windows 8 myself, what did you really hate about it?

@Fallout
Removal of the start menu, it was really annoying not being able to just click start -> my computer.
And a whole range of other things. Also, intel won't make graphics drivers for it until it's released officially. So I was stuck with no OpenGL.

Sounds annoying. Wasn't there a way to enable something similar, like the way 7 allows an XP style taskbar? I hate the way they strip out the shortcuts and features we're used to.

I think windows 8 is more focused on tablet computers than actual desktops, because removing the desktop from the OS is completely idiotic. It would be like scraping optical fiber and going back to using telegraphy xD

Huh? I don't understand that second bit. I have my computer on my desktop like in the XP days. I've always found it annoying in the start menu Actually, I don't think I use the start menu for anything at all (except shutdown) and I'd still be upset if it was gone Bring back win2000!

Edit: The one win7 feature I do like is the window docking - quick and easy 2 window work

@OP:
Just skimmed the thread, but have you resolved the issue? JRH is right about Win7. eMachines all (to my knowledge) have OEM versions of their OS on a seperate partition of around 14GB in size.

Simplest Solution: Install GRUB bootloader (If you have Ubuntu, it comes with GRUB) and from the GRUB boot-loader menu look for a parttion identified as being "Vista" (I know, I think it's a Lite ver of Vista designed to house the recovery software). When you boot into that partition, you should boot into the OEM recovery mode. From there you can re-install Win7. Hope this helps.
