Hello Game Creators!

So, I haven't been on these boards for a while. You may or may not remember me. Having spent alot of time on DBpro and FPSC I went and started a games company & digital agency, and basically got swallowed up into running a company.

After 3 years of really hard work for other clients and researchers we've finally got stuck into making our own game, Gets to the Exit. And we're really excited about it, we think it's great.

So, why am I posting on here? Well, I feel like it was the TGC boards where I really got stuck into game creation. First on FPSC and then in DBpro. It was always and excellent community to throw ideas at and get great feedback (sometimes really harsh feedback)!

We are very close to finishing Gets to the Exit, and it's at the point where I would really like to get some constructive criticism from other game makers.

I'll let you know how you can give that feedback in a minute, here are some screen shots first to give an idea of the art style...

What's the game about? Well, it's a bit like Lemmings, only instead of getting the characters to modify the land, you drag it up and down with a finger. You have to try and get all your little tribesmen from the entrance to the exit, without them getting burned, spiked, drowned, eaten by bears, or crushed by giant frogs. It's a puzzler. It starts out super easy, then gets very very hard.

If you want to see more of the gameplay theres a youtube video here:

Theres also a facebook page for the game here:
We'll be posting updates and so on and getting people involved here, so like it and keep in touch!

Finally, if you're snazzy enough to own a iOS device that is running iOS4+ and would like to get a sneaky peak at the game before it comes out, and do some testing, then please please do get in touch, I would so love it if I could get some of the TGC community involved.

Thanks for reading, John

(PS, if you're currently doubting whether I really have a company, or if I'm a 14 year old doing that "I have a company" thing, do check our website out here, and if you're talented and live in London, then do get in touch)

BF! Long time no see man, I thought you fell off the face of the Earth!

As for the game, it looks like a lot of fun. I'd be willing to do some tests on my iPad2. My email is in my profile.

Welcome back! This looks like a really fun project. The idea is good, the artwork is great. But its a shame its only for iOS since Android is a bit more popular. If there was an Android version, I would play it.

Thanks Josh, I'll wing an email your way in a minute..

Brain, yeah, it's been hard work but I think we're close to getting done!

Charger bandit - fortunately for you, it's also coming to Android, if you are up for testing we can wing you an android build..

Thanks for the comments guys, do give me a shout back on this thread if you are up for testing, or if you have any other comments.

Cheers
John

Hey John, what happened with the gang game you had started a while back, was that ever finished?

I'll send you an email as I don't want to post mine on here, using a different one since we last talked.

In your screenshots all of the soil sediments are at different heights. In nature it is not very common for that to happen, and it looks messy. Sediments flow into one another in curves. After the grass it would be better to have just a single pattern. If you want to have an ever changing pattern use stones, worms, skulls, bones, buried treasure, coffins. Those things can be buried at any height, but soil sediments only drop suddenly in Earthquakes, and things like that.

Welcome back. This must be version 1, in version 2 I'm sure you'll only have to think about moving things, and it will happen

@Pincho - valid point but I think sliding chunks of the landscape up and down is fairly similar to an earthquake.

Shh... you're pretty.

so this is the guy that inspired the whole fpsc-community once ? thank you, man > legend > kneefall...

the caveman reminds me of some futurama-mutants, i really like the easy and straight look of this, and gameplay is awesome, i loved lemmings and the escape-puzzle-games. go on, i am curious about the soundscape, i hear masses of helium-tweets & voices here.

Ahh, the graphics move up, and down. I just noticed that there is a video. I thought that they were stationary. That's a good game idea.

Thanks for the Kind comments guys! I never went away, or stopped creating, I just stepped away form the forums for a while!

@SpyDaniel

The gang game kind of went on hold, then went nowhere, then I had a hard drive death a while back, and now it's gone forever!

@Tiresus

Thanks dude, the art style is thanks to some great chaps at Rumpus Animation, with the help of Danny our inhouse sprite master.
The game is made in our own mobile engine/editor, although the core is written in AS3

@RedEye,

Thanks dude, fingers crossed it does well, really hope that people get behind it and enjoy it!

@Maho76

*Blush* that's really nice of you to say dude, I'm glad that people got inspired from what I was doing with FPSC. The days of Messing around with FPSC definitely set me up for what I'm doing now!

@Ruccus

haha, yeah we defo took alot of audio inspiration from the original worms game (I used to love the audio on that). Truth be told we ran out of budget to actual pay for audio, so we literally recorded all the sounds ourselves - even the button clicks in the menu and the wind noise in the background are made by someone in the dev team's mouth!
