It's kind of a shame that whatever versions of DirectX DarkBASIC is using only support one additive ghost layer with one subtractitive ghost layer. If you put an alpha mapped object behind an alpha mapped object, the one in the background disappears!

This is brilliant! Why didn't I think of this?
I don't think the effect is obvious so I changed the presentation:
