I have been thinking for a while, what's the best 3D editor? I want to make terrain and entities with the same editor. I have been interested on 3D World Studio, but it quite hard to use (demo's terrain editor were laggy and it was pretty slow to make stuff). I have also tried Terrain Editor, but I'm not sure how good quality is results....

Hello Popmas,

What is the best terrain editor is hard to say, but there are a few such as T.ED and EarthSculptor are very good and the A.L.E, which is reasonable, in my opinion.

How to importing the terrain stuff into FPSC that's the question.

That it is very complicated task given that will be issues with collision or any collision at all between the characters and terrain.

Furthermore, a drastic drop in frame rate in game screen due to the huge amount of triangles in the scene at once, since the FPSC has no LOD (level of detail) system besides the terrain textures will lose their definition when you get closer of them.

With respect to 3D modeling software, please click the following link and when you get there look for my post where I point out some good 3D modeling software.

I hope this might clarify a bit your doubts.

Have fun!

Well, I think I have to choose from T.Ed and 3D World Studio. For those I get terrain but I still don't know what is good for weapons and entites. Because 3DWS is better for terrain, buildings etc. I have been trying to use Blender, but uh, it kinda made me mad Do you think it's worth of few hours to watch complete tutorial?

I agree with AJ. Wings 3d functions similarly to 3ds Max, and provides an excellent simple way to get into 3d modelling, while remaining powerful enough to do a professional job. It has a superb balance between ease of use and power that you just can't find in another program that is free and open source.

Well, I already watched half of the Blender Absolute Beginner Tutorial, 12 episodes, made by jakelewis4. So, now I can use blender to make simple objects. But can I import them to FPSC?

E: Or what about fragmotion? If I can animate weapons with it will be very useful...

yes, sure. you have to activate the x-file exporter when using v2.6 (or download when using older versions of blender) and export as an x-file with texture, copy it into the right folder and write a fpe-file for it.

there are some tutorials around here for blender-to-fpsc made by gamerX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtLJ3JNqNJE

Fragmotion is a very useful little program when it comes to animating, it's what I use. If you already can use blender, then I would say definitely continue to use that. It is an excellent powerful program that is much more feature rich than Wings 3d.

I'm going to be using a program for characters called MakeHuman ( the latest version exports with clothes!) , along with Animer for animations.

Not tried terrains inside fpsc yet, but if I did, I'd try the Wings3d method....
