It could be viewed as breaching the AUP on issues such as spam or trolling. Generally actions are based on the moderators' interpretation of the rules rather than your own (to prevent lawyering).

This is why I didn't reply to your email.
You are so convinced you are right, you will argue the toss no matter what.

There is no website error, the ban message you saw was written by a mod. All you are doing is trying to pick every tiny flaw you can in order to convince yourself that your slap wasn't justified.

Quote: "
If you read my email carefully you may know that...

You see what Im getting at here? And please dont ignore this message either as you have my others... It's more respectful that way. As you said I was kind enough to show you respect and not curse you out and yet you still didnt reply??"

You are coming across as extremely arrogant and entitled, and you are inches away from getting yourself a ban.

Im sorry... You are right.

To be honest, not sure why i havent just been ok with it. I was wrong.

Ill even put it out here: I was going to use that extra account to get more points. Yes, i was trolling. Im not sure why I didnt see your point before...

BiggAdd, take this seriously, im sorry. I disrespected you and i shall not do that again.

Edit:

Now i just feel embarrassed. It's not like me to continue an argument with someone like I did... Jee, i feel like a bad person for trying to get more points too... Man BiggAdd, im sorry.

Edit

Ill leave in the apologies. You may need these for future legal cases...

That's the problem with creating a set of forum rules, you can't account for every situation, people who write forum rules aren't lawyers and cannot possibly cover every base or fill every loophole. It's why they have general rules and moderators to make decisions based on them. Generally a warning or newb slap comes first before they make any proper moves of authority. A newb slap is awkward, but it's not there to irritate you, it's there so a mod can monitor your posts to make sure you're not going to break further rules/cause further disruption.

Obviously, I'm not a mod here so I don't know what goes on behind the scenes or their exact reasons, but having been here for 8 years (and having modderated another large set of forums), I think I've sussed out how they work. On the forums I did moderate, you could get moderated for lawyering the rules, especially if you did it in thread, we even perma-banned a guy over it just because he was so disruptive. All he got was a warning and he managed to turn it into a ban.

But, I think the important rule to consider when a mod makes a decision is:

Quote: "3.17 Our forums are moderated by both TGC employees and trusted non-paid members of the public who volunteer their services and time for the benefit of the community. By using our forums you automatically agree that they cannot be held personally responsible for any actions arising from these forums. You agree that moderators shall, at their discretion, determine what constitutes a violation of these terms, along with generally accepted netiquette standards, and can take action against those who voilate these rules."

But good to see you understand. It's annoying getting a newb slap, I know I was pretty much "what the heck, seriously guys?" I even made a thread about it, but truth is, whilst I didn't see that I had done something wrong, the slap actually made sense.

If you actually had a justified reason for disputing your ban, the mods are always willing to listen to your argument.

I've un-slapped and un-banned a couple of people in the past, so its not the case I'm too stubborn to do so.

You also have to consider the fact that the mods aren't paid to do this, and we often have things going on in our lives that take us away from the forums.

It just so happens that the day you sent your email was the day of a rather large project demonstration for my final year of University. Straight after that I had a 2 weeks to write a 15,000 word dissertation.
Also, I just had an exam yesterday which was tough as nails, so after finishing my dissertation, I had a week and a bit to revise for that.
So I've just not had the time. So when I received an email from you with a page of wishy washy (no offence) arguments on why you did what you did, I couldn't really prioritise replying to you, and now that I have a little extra time, your slap ended ages ago.

Wishy washy, as in there wasn't really an argument. Wasn't really a valid reason for you to be un-slapped.

The majority of people who have their duplicate account banned don't create another. And also for the record, we don't just go off IP to determine whether or not a new account should be banned.

More often than not, if we are unsure who the poster is, we will ask. But we have a few tricks to determine who is posting.

Log in and log out times?? Im very curious. I know i would go log out of this account and then log into the other one and vice versa. Tell me about the other tricks, if you are allowed to please.

Just a word of advise, when writing those dup account things, i would recommend saying multiple accounts. Im not sure about europe (i assume you are there for some reason) but here in america the term duplicate means to try to mimic. I thought you guys were mad at me for trying to mimic happy cheesecake's account.

I think it's duplicate in that you've got multiple identities, so your 2nd account is a duplicate of you. For the store, I don't think it's wrong to have duplicate accounts, because the email I use to buy products is different to the one I signed up to the forum for. The email I use for the store I set up years after joining the forums. But my other account is never used on the forum.

Meh. All depends on how you define stuff. I just think it would work more universally well if it said multiple.

Also, we should get this back on topic before it gets locked and people inside when it gets locked get trapped.

Multiple accounts are fine. I have one account for my purchases and one for this forum.

We have had instances where people setup another account, so they can troll the forum, like going and agreeing with yourself, or bumping your own threads, or just picking fights. The duplicate account rule is setup for that purpose, if you have another account, then it's fine so long as you don't post on the forum. We can tell, and nothing looks dodgier than someone posting on the forum with 2 accounts, it's one of the first things we check when looking at a users profile. We have to deal with dupe accounts quickly and unilaterally, as they can cause so much trouble, even if that isn't always the intention.

Just my 2p's worth.

uh oh...so you weren't at the Mods Hawaiian free-for-all either because you weren't invited, I thought you just didn't want to come? Maybe you can apply for back-pay, but I think the company car will just have to start from the day you get it. At least you'll get the latest model Audi TT, I still have the old shape.

I've been slapped about 8 times, but all by women.

I would like to put Sep forward as a moderator. He is about the most chilled out, calm and rational person on this forum. Sometimes I read one of Sep's posts and just instantly fall asleep. Can you get more calming than that?

Also he has lots of hair.

I think he should replace Van B. There's a evil horrible forum tyrant if ever I saw one.

Be careful, it's always the calm ones that go mad with power.

BTW Fallout, I listened to all of your tracks in one go while I was on an 8 hour coding streak, and MAN was that some of the best DnB I've ever heard. I've only posted this once in my life, and you deserve the second one --> (directed to your music of course )

[EDIT] Since I've got your attention, do you happen to know any other good artists that make melodic DnB? Something along the lines of this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moIISGDc4ZA

I was one of those people lol. If anyone wants to know why, it's because my internet glitched and caused be to spam my "Max Payne FPS Mod for Max Payne" thread with bump posts, of course, BigAdd didn't know this, so I emailed him and was unslapped. It's because of the nice mods on this forum, that I love being here, most other website forums I don't ever visit anymore because the moderators just ruin the experience.

@TheComet - Thanks buddy! Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, if you can put up with the older sound on the older tunes, there's enough material there to accompany some big coding sessions. As for other melodic artists, I'll try and add some links to this post in a bit.

It was August 2008 iirc when I became a mod. There was a vote and bth Nickydude and I were chosen.

I remember ages and ages ago posting a couple of pics from the mod control panel. I don't know where and I don't know when but somewhere on the forums here are pictures.

Yup, it was put to the vote for a new mod and both myself and Thraxas got high votes so we were both chosen. So for those who'd like to be a mod, keep your nose (and mouth) clean and you never know...

Agreed. It's rhythmic and not too intrusive, plus keeps your thinking tempo up. I can't recommend any artists exactly. I find they do some bad tunes and some good tunes, but I'll post up a few links from my YouTube favourites list, which have some melody or nice coding vibe ...
Ram Trilogy - Titan
London Elektricity - Hanging Rock (One of my favourite tunes)
DJ Zinc - Casino Royale (old skool classic)
High Contrast - Racing Green
Pendulum - Hold Your Colour
Courtney Pine - I've Known Rivers (Great chill out tune)

They're all the more melodic style dnb tracks on my faves list. Maybe you can go form there and find more.

Perhaps we could lure all mods to meet at a "convention". Just say that there's Strawberry Icecream, bagels, and a robot cat there, that always seems to work. Then just blow up the building. I'm not sure what to do about BiggAdd though since he's not human...

But yea it does seem a LOT calmer here than it once was. I can't believe it's been 6 years since I joined here. Where does the time go?

It's possible that I may actually be the longest running moderator still active(ish) on the forums, excluding TGC staff of course.
