I have a nvidia gtx 560 ti, and an intel 2600k.

The screen will frequently go black for a second or so when the pc is warming up while playing a game or when it is cooling down.

It just started doing this. Anyone got ideas for what I should do?

Thanks ahead of time.

Mine does the same thing! Except mine falls asleep. I have no idea why it does this either. Restarting it usually helps, though. I look forward to the responses.

Restarting hasn't helped for me.

It sounds like your video driver crashed. With nvidia, it usually pops up a message in the bottom right taskbar.

Try updating drivers.

Are you overclocking your graphic card? Maybe slow it down a bit.

@Jerico2day Thanks for the response. It has not said that it is crashing, and I did update my drivers recently, and I'm updating them again now.

I have had them crash in the past and give me that notification, but it only happened about 5 times ever.

@Pincho Paxton The card I have is over clocked by default. I'll see if there is a more preferred speed though.

@MrValentine What?

I am having a hard time understanding whether or not you have overclocked...

Its 800 watts, and when the computer is hot it works just fine.

The GPU is over clocked by 40 megs.

Edit: I seem to have been able to stop the problem by changing to clocking on my processor to be 3.7 ghz instead of the usual(slightly overclocked) 3.9 ghz and switching which port on the GPU I get the signal from. I hope I can now raise the clocking back up and not have the problem come back. I doubt it will work though.

I'm with Valentine on this one, the wattage on your PSU doesn't matter if it's putting out a crappy supply. What make is the PSU? I had a 700w PSU powering a HD6850 and it would frequently cut out.

Thank you indicium... I was hoping someone would catch on...

Your GPU spec will demand a certain AMPerage from your PSU... The Warrage is nothing special...

Kinda like putting a ferrari body kit on an old banger of a car...

The Wattage is the body kit the AMPerage is the banger...

In other words your PSUs AMPerage may not be sufficient...

Which results in your GPU getting heavy on processing load... Demanding a higher capacity of power from your PSU and your PSU giving your GPU the finger then potentially turning off power until your GPU calms down from excessive drug usage...

OkOk... Time for a cold shower...

An 800watt psu is more than sufficient, unless there's something wrong. Since you downclocked the cpu by a few MHz and that fixed it, that's almost certainly the problem.

But why?

If you adjusted the FSB over the motherboard's maximum frequency, it could be a problem with your northbridge where the memory controller lies (on most cpu's). That could certainly cause problems. It could just be the CPU can't handle that overclock, or it could be that you also adjusted the pci bus speed by accident (recommended not to do this).

Best advice, leave it at stock if you don't need the overclock. Need the OC? Try adjusting the voltages on the northbridge and/or cpu.

In the past, my computer hasn't had any issues with even higher levels of OC.

Yes, MrValentine, I get your point, but I tend to doubt that's the problem even though it sounds like it should be something like that.

@Jerico2day Thanks for all that advice, but I don't really know how to adjust those voltages (although I might know how to check them). Also, I don't think I changed that pci bus speed.
I guess I'll do some restarts though and try different cpu speeds and see if I can ensure those various settings are at their default values.

I seem to remember this happening to me on occasion before either the monitor or the graphics card (I can't remember which because I've had problems with both, though I think it was the latter) died.

Well, I loaded the so called optimal settings in BIOS and it's still working fine. Now to try over clocking.

Ok, so I tried overclocking a variety of levels and I still got the black out on some games, but it seemed to happen less.

However, judging by what people have said, I should probably contact the manufacturer. I believe there is still some kind of warranty on it.

So, my gpu is running hot. I think it is the problem, so I want to move the gpu down a slot to get it closer to the fan on the side of the case.

Anything I should do before changing the ports that my gpu is plugged into?

I can't think of anything you'd need to do, just to check, you know the graphics card plugs into pci-e, and not pci?

All I mean is, unless you specifically know your motherboard has more than one graphics card slot, the other slots are probably PCI.

this image should illustrate what I am about to say...

[OBSERVE THE LEFT SIDES FOR THE MARKINGS ON THE PCI-E SLOTS]

Some slots below the slot nearer the CPU socket are often slower in bandwidth... so just check this or else you will see a drop... BY 50% in performance... and I did see this myself before... I had an ABIT FATAL1TY FP-IN9 and the first slot was X16 in single but then if I stuck a card in the second they both became X8 and I do not remember what happened if I only used the second one but if your slot is specifically marked X8 then it will be X8... oh I recall now that my second slot was fixed X8 only... so just be sure of this before changing over... if you are stuck just tell us your mother board make and we can advise better

EDIT

Yes I do have am obsession with Capital I's

EDIT

Also observe the difference in Colour

EDIT

Also Notice the bottom one is X4 this is common and often the GPU places here is used for physx enhancement

Hmm, it says pcieX4 next to the one I switched it to, and it says pcixX16 next to the other one.

BTW, I am not seeing much of an improvement in temperature. Hmm, I may need to call cyberpower..

I'd recommend removing the heatsink, cleaning it up with compressed air (in a can, not a compressor), removing the heatsink paste, putting fresh paste on and reseating it. Make sure not to damage the heat pads though if there are any on the ram chips, you probably won't need to replace those.

If that's too much for you, definitely call cyberpower.

Try installing MSI afterburner and crank the fans of the card up a bit. My card runs way too hot and I have to keep it at 100% or the drivers would crash while I'm gaming...

Ok, I have been using afterburner, and it seemed to help. It definitely helped me get the temperature down to 67 on average(under load) from 76. However, the screen has gone black about 10 time in the past couple seconds while under no load at all.

Ugh, I'd really hate to send it back to the manufacturer, they are on the other side of the country....
