I haven't seen one of these threads for a while and I've been wanting to show how nice Ubuntu looks with a few simple touches. I found a program (MyUnity) that gives you more customisation options such as making the top bar completely transparent, which is great for photo backdrops! Plus I have a picture of a big ol' fish so what's not to like? VIEW -->

The bar on the side is only visible when the cursor pushes against the side of the screen, and you do have to push which is a nice feature as it prevents the bar appearing when you don't want it to.

I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of customisation options in the latest Ubuntu versions since that was one of it's advantages over the restrictive Windows GUI.

My desktop is usually a complete mess, so I gave it a nice cleaning, especially for you guys! (Actually, I just hid the icons, so it's almost the equivalent of just shoving all the junk under your bed.)

Enjoy my downscaled, ever-changing desktop background with a taskbar.

Mine's far too cluttered for public display - just counted 39 shortcuts on it .

There's a nice turtle behind the shortcuts though.

@Doomster I like those bars with the monochrome icons. How did you do that? And how did you display a thumbnail?

Here is a photo that better displays the transparency -->
Yes I am using this thread as an excuse to post photos of random animals, what of it?
That's the thing I like about Ubuntu's GUI though, there's very little of it. I don't like having anything on the desktop, why would I hide my programs under windows? That seems like keeping your pens under your papers.

That's a screenshot from Crysis.
So, how would I put my image up to show when I'm uploading it here?
I also use this background:

Unlike my Vice President, I've taken my shot as-is. It's a wee bit messy, but it has been worse, Fences is meant to help you keep things tidy and I think I'm half way there .

Here's my desktop. It's a fairly recent reinstall of Windows 7, so the icons are kind of messy.

The background image is of downtown Pyongyang. My girlfriend is going back to Korea next month so I was taking a look at pics of the "other" Korea. I'm kind of obsessed with it, actually.

It's the good ol' Windows XP, using RocketDock (for the icon bar at the top) and the "Muin" theme.

Some of you may recognize things on my desktop background.

(I'm on Windows7 and don't use desktop icons because they slow down your computer's startup speed and are inconvenient to get to when you're working on something covering your screen.(Quicklaunch ftw ))

I currently have 5 setup for work if you count the 2 laptop screens. Normally though they are down and I work with only 3. I make up for it though by having 9 terminal emulators connected to our Unix systems opened at all times on one screen (the 1600x1200 screen).

Ah lovely screens...

Nope, although I did used to have a couple of CRTs with that resolution. This one is my trusty Dell 2001FP that I've had for years. Awesome monitor that has crossed countries a few times (once in the boot of my car). Cost a bomb at the time but is one of those Ultrasharp ones and the display quality is excellent. Is like that favourite chair or game you never want to get rid of

Cheers
