I've been around these forums for nearly a decade, and those who have been around awhile know I'm typically not too open about what goes on in my personal life. So I'm not really sure why I'm even sharing this, but I do know from what I've seen in the past that this has be a very support forum to its members.

This morning I laid my father down beneath the earth, he passed Thursday night. I only recently found out that he needed a surgery to keep him alive, related to the stroke he had last year just weeks after I left for the military. However, the surgery itself would've likely killed him doctors said and therefore they wouldn't do it. So he's known about a ticking time bomb was waiting inside him with nothing anyone could do. I've been away in the army for the past 10 months and was due back home just 2 weeks from last thursday.

I can't pretend I know what you're going through, though I can relate in a way, you have my condolences and I hope you and the family are holding up well.

Sadly enough, a long time family friend (and ex-girlfriends') father happened to pass away on Father's day as well.

Very sorry for your loss.

I>Every single one of you

Have a nice day

Wow man, my condolences, even though such gestures don't heal the pain of losing a loved one.
Thanks for your service, and stay safe out there brother. We need you and the rest of our military to come home safe!

I'm really sad to hear that Phaelax. I haven't lost my dad but this made me think about it and I wrote a poem about a son's grief.

Shadow Of The Mourning Son

From great oak born
This branch is torn
Now winter befalls 'spring
All song becomes a silent breeze
That casts an icy sting

And I take stock of thee my Sire
And place the timber on the fire
And feel the warm glow of your hearth
Which illuminates my darkened path
Where memory of my life begun
Is but the shadow of the mourning son

Shh... you're pretty.

Sorry for your loss, I know the feeling.
I had to come home from Iraq on a Red Cross message to bury my Grandfather (whom raised me) in '08.

I'm sure he passed being proud of you for choosing to serve.

Sorry to hear about you loss Phaelax. I can't say "I kanow how you feel" - nobody knows how another feels - but I do sympathize. I lost my grandmother (with whom I lived) when I was 15 on the first day of exams so I had to go to school and then I lost an uncle last year and another uncle this year. I have a different outlook on death to most so I reacted differently due to my "religion". Obviously, I preach to you (especially not my weird beliefs) but I will say that in my personal experience, the best way to deal with death is acceptance and pragmatism. It's hard not to ask "why [me/him/her/us/this/now]" in life but it's a bad question with no satisfactory answer. Equally, it's sometime hard to talk about that person whom you've lost but one of the best ways to begin healing is to remember the good times with your father share funny moments you had with him with friends and family - even if tears are rolling down your face while you do so. Embrace your pain as a testament to the fact that you cared for him.

Very sorry to hear about your dad, Phaelax. I haven't been in the Army, but I lost my dad when he was only 54, and my mom was only 65, so I know what you're going through. May he rest in peace.
My condolences, man.

What really sucks on top of all this is Monday I have to go back to training right into a week long field exercise. But after running into people this past week that knew my dad, I know he was proud of what I was doing because everyone knew about it. Knowing that really helps get me through those days when I just want to quit. (as if the army gave me an option)

Phealex, I'm really sorry. It was a sad fathers day for me as well- on June 19th of 2011 (last fathers day), my father passed away from colon cancer after a long battle. Realize that you are not alone in your grief and struggles, and although the first year is especially hard, you will get through it.
