Developer: Dark Form Entertainment

Engine build: Custom 1.18 modification

Type: Multi-Player

Current Story:

The year is 2017, during the second major civil war. Mercenary corporations housing large military’s and factories are for the most part in control over the United States. You play a soldier from either OpStat (Operations Statistics and Command) a Mercenary company contracted by the CIA and FEMA or Exode a company that specializes in the creation of both biological and ground war fare weaponry. Both companies have their armies pitted against each other in the fight to take total control. Which company will you choose to fight for?

Future Story:

Single-player
2011 - United States pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan to help defend against a possible Russian attack.
2013 - With the already hurt United States economy, socialists dig deep into congress, uprooting major government figures.
2015 - A civil war takes place, destroying major cities and key military facilities.
2016 - "OpStat" is hired and begins as the major defense force for project -Deprivation- while the new American government oversees it.
2017 - Another major uprising takes place, mercenary corporations quickly end the fighting and assume control, and only one city was partially destroyed.
Early 2018 - Project Deprivation is a success, gateways unearthed and governments proposing alliance, pouring funds into the study and research of the gate ways.
Late 2018 – British and American governments merge territories together under one government forming the UGA.

The year is 2019. Russia and the UGA (United Government Alliance) are now in control over most of the world's resources. The two giants propose an alliance to accelerate the human race, jointly pouring money and man-power into the last stages of "Project Deprivation", the study of gateway technology and weaponry. Unearthing an orb of unknown origin. In early 2019 the ability to read the Aztec's, Mayan's, and Inca's scrolls and other ancient civilizations scriptures became fundamentally easier. They learned that once long ago, all three former empires had held an orb. Scriptures spoke of them as being a weapon, going on to tell how the civilizations were forced to hide the orbs for a stronger future generation. With all three weapon pieces found, Heaven and Hell’s very being could be compromised. Both eternal enemies agreed it was time to purge the world once again, much as it had done the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incans. One orb, per one once great empire, the technology given to the civilizations from an ancient alien race, once allied with Nephilims. This alien race took that mission, and doing so they were saved from the galaxy's mass purge. Before the Nephilims were wiped entirely away, they replicated the alien's world, safe from the current galaxy. Your mission? You must find all three pieces of this puzzle, and activate that weapon. You must succeed against both your own race, and those that hide in the abyss. Will you be the Apex of the human civilization? Or be wiped away like those before you.

You play as Sergeant Ivan Lakov, a soldier in Exodes Security Force. Just recently hired, you are thrown into tedious guard duties, long hours, and no sleep. Things have not been interesting at all in your career. That is, until only recently, when the gates began to open, and heaven and hell’s forces are unleashed.

Features:
100% squad based combat
Powerful weapon unlocks
Realistic gameplay and Exciting content
Rank up against players online!
Upgraded physics – Although not a currently implemented feature, within the next couple of patches Desolation: Earth will feature fully integrated NVidia PhysX
All weapons and characters will be unlocked by rank, no store to purchase over powered weapons and characters with your hard earned money.

-Update 1.0.1- 6/23/12

Made changes to the text that appears in Dark Energy

-Update 1.0.2- 6/25/12

Please run Dark Energy to download this update.

*Fix to clients that would crash due to other clients hitting tab
*Fix to client chat that would cause lockups on certain clients

Attention:
6/26/12
Dark Form beta testers have found a severe problem with the Dark Energy patch system. The update 1.5.2 will act as if it is installing Desolation Earth and will not give you the option to download the actual game. If you have not seen the Desolation: Earth download form, and keep getting a "Files Missing" error please Delete your Desolation Earth folder if there are only 2 files. The folder is located in your program files or program (x86) files folder.

Proceed then to the Desolation Earth profile on Dark Energy to download the game. We will be releasing a patch very soon to fix this problem.

-Update 1.0.3- 6/26/12
*Fix to client not being able to see other clients, could fix the potential end game problem.

-Update 1.1- 9/30/12

Performance:

*Minor memory tweaks to the client
*Fixed multiple major engine issues causing doors and grenades to not work as intended
*Deleted old “Spikey” mountain in Silo causing FPS drop due to high polygons, replaced with newer optimized terrain
*Fixed an issue that would cause sounds to load in multiple times consuming memory.
*Minor network code maintenance

Additions/fixes:

*Doors now sync properly for each player.
*Fixed an issue causing grenades to cause a score malfunction and not end the game properly.
*Fixed an issue cuasing the AK-74M to slant sideways
*Added a new talk ping
*Added a new hurt hud that appears when your health is less than 40
*Added points gain after each kill on the top middle of the screen
*Delete Forest due to collision problems
*Added Warehouse and Dark City maps
*Fixed various collision issues the community reported in various maps
*Deleted a medi-pack on East London map causing health loss
*Fixed some spawning issues in Gateway
*Added new player sounds/hurt sounds

Balance:

*Grenade damage has been increased and so has the radius
*The AK-74M damage has been slightly decreased to co-inside with the real AK-74M’s 5.45 caliber. The AK-74M has much better ammo manageability than the M4A1 due to its ROF. In some cases the AK-74M also has less recoil.

-Update 1.1.1- 10/13/12

Performance:

Fixes/Additions:

*Fixed a problem causing the talk ping to not use the correct sound
*Patched a glitch in gateway allowing users to get into the generator
*Fixed a bug causing the doors in gateway to not work correctly
*Fixed a spawn in Gateway causing characters to get stuck
*Re-compiled Asylum with new changes and shaders
*Fixed some texture issues in Asylum

Balance:

*Increased grenade damage
*Fixed the spawm position for Exode in Asylum

This is a really cool game. Great level design... But I found a way to jump out of the map... Heres's the steps that I did to achieve it...

1. Find the firetruck
2. Go to the back of it and jump you will be up on the fire truck now.
3. Run and jump to the wall at the front side of the truck.
4. Turn to your right of the wall your facing and walk forward.
5. Fall out of the map.

Also I learned how to scale a building..

1.Find what I believe is a destroyed shed which is by all the dumpsters.
2. Behind it is a railing surrounding the tree.
3. Jump onto the railing and jump on to the back of the shed.
4. carefully walk across the top of the shed to the building. Your now hidden by the tree and at a high place so not to many people will see you.

To fix these issues unless you want them what I would do is just make an invisible wall and place it to prevent the user on jumping on the objects like I did. But overall this game is great and I really like your level design.

Cheers,

Alien

I downloaded dark energy, patched it up, and downloaded the game itself and patched that up, only to see nobody online.

I want to sign up for the game night too. I really want to see how all these maps would work out online. It looks like you've put a lot of work into this.

You just need to get the game more out there, so that more people can play. I posted on your forum about the game night, but I do not think the forum server recieved it.

Anyway, the maps look great, they look fun to play, the modifications to the game look amazing as well, and I hope that I will be able to play full games on all of them.

Hi Mini0013xx,

Yes we put years of work into the custom modification of the engine. We started this game on early version 1.15. I'm really sorry, I just double checked the game scrimmage post and we did not see anything from you, but we will mark you down as a reserved spot.

It is sad that no one runs a game, we have tried marketing this on facebook/indiedb and most importantly on this forum in hopes that enough people would see the game and play. Multi-player games have a bad reputation on this forum, and we are trying to change that.

We hope to see you on Saturday, expect another small patch before then. Remember the game will be at 8:00PM EST.

I read the FAQ. Apparently I do not have any permissions to use the forum yet. I hope that changes soon. Anyway, I have been exploring the maps lately, so I am the only person up on at the moment.

To all who think that multiplayer FPSC games fail, this game looks like it would be great fun to play, with great level design and a fully modified gameplay system. (Custom classes through a level up process.)

Mini, you should now be apart of the Desolation: Earth Veteran group. You will no longer be on any post moderation.

You are correct, as you gain levels you will unlock different types of weapons ranging from assault rifles to light machine guns. The game this saturday will hopefully show people how much fun it really is

I have fraps. I could record a few games and post them on YouTube. That would get the popularity up, just a little bit.

Hmmm.... This game looks like it needs some more work... You say your team has spent 4 years on this? Well, here are my suggestions,

-Better level design
-Custom models
-Much better AI *edit: I say much better AI based off of the videos seen on their channel.
-Better physics engine

Other than that it looks to be a great game I must say.

Thank you.

Hi guys,

Thank you for your suggestion.

@OmegaWolf98
We plan on updating the maps as much as we can once we have the network issues resolved.

@Tokyomage
We do plan on improvement on the maps at a later date.

We don't use AI in MP.

We are working on integrating Nvidia physics.

Probably not an option at this point comrade.

Played a 1v1 game with GM_Acid. The game was a lot of fun to play. We played on a large three story building map too. If we had played on a smaller one, then the game would have been a little faster, but still, it was great. Had a nice conversation with him too.

Haha well you know me. We will have to get you on one of these days I watch you do so many things on your labtop that I think you could still woop everyones but on a FPSC online game.

@Everyone

We have been working all week long on fixing up some issues that people have reported. We hope to have the next patch out sometime next week and then host a game. Thanks to everyone who played we have been able to track down issues not seen during beta testing. Thanks again everyone

Hi Poloflece,

Can I have a small screen of the exact issue? What version of Dark Energy is it? You will see a number on the right hand top corner. Is it as soon as you click Desolation: Earth? Does this also happen each time you click it? Or this only happened once?

**Edit**
I just tried downloading and installing everything on a test machine and I am getting the same issue you are having. We will have a small fix tonight. I apologize for that.

**Edit 2**
Update 1.5.5 is out and it should fix the issue that some of you are having. Just run Dark Energy to download it.

Ok cool, I'll be able to play most of you're night then.

One thing which I noticed with the m4a1 was that the hipfire proved more effective in every situation, I found this was because the hand rail of the gun was tunneling my view, thus I decided to modify the weapon to get the result below, I also discovered that is it every easy to get my own guns replacing the m4a1 (unfortunately currently having the same statistics), so I rigged up my SKS and got it fighting fit (image bottom)

I'm really into this game so far, more so than any other pc game.
Also, would it be possible to integrate some form of chat system into dark energy? As it would make arranging matched much easier, I've narrowly missed joining a few servers which have had 1 person in them.

I think when you join most games (which will only have one player) the player will have finished having a look at the map and will have ended the game by the time you've finished loading. I am currently leaving a server up to make sure that anyone who does go on knows that there are in fact people online.

Edit: I see what you mean, I tried between 2 of my computers and upon loading completion a message saying something like "can't connect" appeared.

Hi guys!

I'm glad you are all having fun, that's what our intention was. The development team is working hard on getting out the next patch. Dark Energy 1.5 was supposed to include a community chat, but we never got around to finishing it. We're about 99% done with it as I type this. This will make it much easier to talk with friends and get games going without having to use the forum!

Quote: "Oh No!, I tried to join a game today and it kept saying unable to connect to game.

Even though Desolation: Earth uses completely new network code you still need to make sure that you forward both TCP/UDP port 2303! This is vital if you wish to have anyone connect to your game. A joiner does not have to forward the port, just the host!

Port 2303 must be forwarded on your router for your machine running the game. For more information on how to forward your port go to our forums and look under "Desolation: Earth official release Q&A"

@Poloflece

Hey again polo! I really appreciate you loving the game as much as we did developing it. I also love your artistic talent, and the ability to mod weapons/textures. I would however ask that you do not mod weapons in Desolation: Earth as it is against our AUP. We never added any super dictator security systems because we know the community knows right from wrong.

I still think its pretty awesome and the SKS is one of my favorite weapons. However it isn't fair to the other players by giving yourself and advantage, even if a little bit. It can also cause stability problems with your client, and potentially the host. So when playing official games just keep the stock weapons, we have plenty to choose from so it should curve the urge to unleash doom with an SKS. Thanks guys

Thanks for the help on port forwarding (funnily enough the first video I found on it was by you), I've got it working so I'll be able to hopefully help get more games running.

I can understand why, but my weapons mods are only visual(I believe that a different .x and .dds file do not effect other players?), no gun spec editing has occurred, however since it of course may grant me an advantage you won't have to worry about me using the modded weapons from now on as it would be unfair.

How many ways can we interpret this picture? We came up with a few but I think the best was one even out of the pits of fiery hell (Or in this case a fragmentation grenade) GM_Frostreaper just wants a big hug.

But seriously... this image was taken two seconds before a major bug happened helping us solve it. We're just letting everyone know we have been able to replicate most of the issues people are having. We plan to have patch 1.1 out here very soon. Keep an eye on this spot

I've launched the game several times (sometimes even a few times a day) to look for an open lobby. Haven't found one. It's a shame... I really liked it. If anyone wants to play a few rounds, I'm all for it.

Cheesehead for life.

I'd believe it is what is known as a vicious cycle, whilst there are people who would love to play, there is never a server with people on it, so a server never gets set up

I can get on right now if you'd like (I hope you see this).
edit: To avoid confusion, I'm hosting
another edit: I might have to report forward as I got my pc reimaged.
oooh another edit: Disregard the latter

@le Short

Hey! I totally understand. That will be changing soon, we have not and will not give up or forget about this. We are just hard at work on the next patch. Right now the game is not at an acceptable quality level for us as there is still some unstable factors. Once we kick out 1.1 I think you guys will enjoy the game that much more!

Just keep an eye out on this spot. 1.1 should be out within a week or two at max.

Hi guys, sorry for the double post and bump! Just letting everyone know that Desolation: Earth update 1.1 has been released.

We strongly advise players un-install and re-download the new game. So much has changed in the file structure that it would be easier to just re-download and install the game, the patch and the installer are the same size. This way everyone is on the same page and no-one has to patch anything.

****Community chat server will not be online until tomorrow an hour before the game!****

This method should not ever happen again. However with what we found we needed to make some major changes.

We have a game planned 10/01/12 at around 7:00PM EST. We hope to see everyone on! We have a big competition coming up here soon, so everyone should try and rank up to unlock weapons! Thank you all for being patient. Patch notes are on the second post.

@Soviet176, do you have any new ingame footage of this? I took a look at the Youtube channel but only found videos that were 2 years old.

I didn't even check for the game. Aww.

Well, anyway, I liked the 2 new maps released. Can't wait to play them. Should host game nights more often though. You'd have a larger active community on your site.

But yes, can't wait for you to come out with v1.2 and see what new maps await us.

Hey I might be able to do some map design for you guys, with 100% custom media?

Poloflece

Important edit!: You need to add a message on the host game page informing hosts that they must forward their port 2303, as I've missed multiple matches due the host having an un-joinable server.

@Pologlece

I agree 100% thank you for the idea. I will put that into Dark Energy immediately. Expect that out this Friday with some other fixes.

If you wanted to join our team you are more than welcome, I can't make team requests here so that's why I never did. That's totally up to you

@Landman

Not yet but you can be apart of one, I just need a full house for a game.

@Mini

Glad you liked them comrade! I am finally moving my server so that I can set it up to hold game nights more often. It will also keep the chat server on everyday

@All

The next update for Dark Energy should be out Friday. We are working on Desolation: Earth 1.1.1 which will include a updated version of Asylum, some bug fixes reported to us by Poloflece and some other little things. Expect that out soon

Please make sure you use the Community chat! It is there so that you can talk to other members and coordinate your own games if you want.

Hi guys!

Sorry for the double post... again! Just letting everyone know that Desolation: Earth patch 1.1.1 has just been released.

This patch picks up on problems left over from 1.1 We have fixed a few bugs reported to us by the community and added the Asylum changes that were meant to be in 1.1 Patch notes are on the second page!

With that being said I finally got around to building our dedicated server (Thanks to newegg!) and she is online. Support Chat and Community chat will be online 24/7 from now on.

Now that this patch is out we will start planning out a cool competition that anyone can join. We will keep you posted on this. I hope everyone enjoys!

Very good. How did you made that aiming system as in modern fps games? Does that come with any model pack?

P.S. Why russians are always bad?

Do you mean aiming with guns in the game? Yea all of EAI's weapons do this.

Quote: "P.S. Why russians are always bad? "

Glad you asked this question. Being Russian myself I never understood why we were always the bad guys. It actually works both ways, in a cold war mind set. Both great nations (Soviet Union and the United States) had totally different views making both nations thinking they were bad.

In Desolation: Earth, the United States government has crippled under its self. This idea was taken from what’s happening today and multiplied. Companies are mostly in control of the United States, like many other countries in this time line. Russia however is not and has gone back to its cold war like roots.
The Russian intelligence agency F.S.B is well aware of the study into Gateway technology and the weapons being created from it. Russia sees this as a threat only because companies have no allegiance and wouldn’t think twice in using it. You actually play a GRU Spetsnaz Sgt or OR-5 that has infiltrated one of the larger companies to secure the technology. As you progress in the campaign you will find that you are actually saving the human race and not so much earth. Russian’s are far from being the bad guys in this game, and the Americans are not bad guys as well. Just companies.
