Hey guys,

I'm completely going insane over this. A few years back, there was a post to a youtube video of a song from a new-ish band that talked heavily about the 1920s-1930s and wars and trains... and I can't find ANYTHING on it! I can't remember the band name or the song that video was about, I just remember it was an amazing song with beautiful guitar and amazing music. If anyone can please help me figure out what it was, I would GREATLY appreciate it!

I seem to remember the album cover was in sepia tone and featured a picture with trains and a group of guys in it (I think there were 3). If that helps at all.

Apart from doing a manual search through specialised music stores, last week I downloaded for the first time Spotify. To my surprise, my first two searches were for B-sides from 'The Police' singles. It found them and I haven't seen them around anywhere... Spotify also has a music store for purchasing those tracks too. Worth checking out first as it's free.

The problem is, all I can remember is what the ALBUM was about, not the track or band name itself. I can't remember any lyrics, either.

Wasn't Porcupine Tree was it?

I think it was indie, but not rock indie or anything like that. There were parts of the song that were very acoustic and moved slow - only four notes were played and they were high, repeated throughout the song.

If it helps any, I'm pretty sure it was about life in the 1930s. The only problem is, any type of search query like that automatically brings up old songs from the 1930s. Not what I'm looking for.

I'm also FAIRLY certain it was posted in The Posting Competition a few years ago, probably by Venge or Matuka...

@Nickydude:

Wrong style of music. Although "Fear of a Blank Planet" does somewhat match my description pretty well!

You know what, I was thinking the exact same thing. Though he said 1930s and that's what kind of drew me off from posting it. Still, it's a great song from a great album.

I had a quick go of looking myself, but I couldn't find anything to match your description.

However, I did find this:
List of Train Songs

Something might jump out at you. 'Trains' by Porcupine Tree is on there and it's a pretty extensive list and I'm not sure whether or not I should be worried that this list was compiled, but hey, I guess you gotta be enthusiastic about some things in your life. Hopefully what you're looking for is on there.

I was really hoping Nickydude guessed correctly, just so I could give him one Hell of a pat on the back.

I really do wish you luck on your little journey here, CoffeeYoda CoderMan Jer, but it's definitely going to prove a difficult journey with such little information on what you're looking for. It's funny how such trivial things like the color of the album cover and the 1930's stick in your mind whereas the more important details slip away over time, haha. I wish I could help, but I don't venture far from generally popular metal where music is concerned.

Also, if you're sure that it was either Venge or Matuka (he changed his username, didn't he?), then you may be able to contact them. Venge still posts on the posting competition (I think. Good luck getting a message through to him with the state that thread is usually in, heh) and Matuka seems to stay online on Steam more often than not. They probably have a better idea of what you're talking about then anybody else.

So was I! Would've been truly epic.

But I've pretty much given up on the search... I'll likely never find the song or album it belongs too. Strange thing that's happening is the more I try to remember the specifics of the album, the more it fades...

So I'm just gonna stop.

Thanks for your help, though!

I hate searching for old songs that you can't remember the name of. I have a few in my head, and all I have is some vague information...

I want to find a rock song...
The single was red.

I want to find a rap song...
It is very fast, with a lot of words to it.

Ok, this one I remember more of!

It's a different song altogether, sung by a British band with a funk and possible Jamaican influence. The song I'm trying to find by them is a video that shows them dancing around the city; the lead singer has long dark hair (pretty sure it's not Boy George or Culture Club; already did tons of Googling with those terms) and towards the chorus of the song is sitting atop a building and singing. I think the building was a restaurant.

Does that ring any bells?

what's even more annoying is knowing the chorus of the song and realizing that it must have been an obscure local bands song you heard and liked.

there was an awesome track I heard years ago on a supermarket sound system. the chorus went

"don't get mad son, be a man son, you just march to the beat of your own drum"

It had a really catchy beat, I still cant find it anywhere.

that and there is a catchy song sung in what i suspect is spanish. i heard and liked it but dont know any of the words. Its a common song often used in advertizing, upbeat tempo, large chorus of girls singing it.

frustrating, but great when you finally find it. Like when I found Yakooza's cocain track after only being able to remember the cool riff and the word cocain... how many cocain songs could there be? lots aparently.

Yeah, I had a tape made by someone at home, and it was the best song that I had ever heard, and I lost the tape. It's impossible to get.
