I joined this forum back in 2005 when I was 11 years old. Not sure how many of my old friends on here remember me. In 2010 I got a little bored of sitting behind a computer so I pretty much stopped programming altogether. But recently as I have just graduated high school and decided to go into engineering for college, my interest for programming and 3D design has sparked up again.

So I thought I'd come around and check out what everyone has been up to for the past two years. I see some familiar faces... Jeku, Seppeku Arts etc... what's the TGC community been up to in the past couple of years? I see this new AppGameKit thingy, a multi-platform code generator, that sounds interesting.

I also wanted to create an AI using speech recognition, although I'm not sure what language or API it would be best suited in. Kind of a robot program I can talk to and command, and have it respond and do things on my computer for me (adjust volume etc. simple things). Who knows anything about that?

So, yeah. That's that. I guess I'm back. What's up?

OHAI! I remember you for your Havok wrapper, which was awesome, by the way. Welcome back!

And in all these years, you still can't get my name right.

Anyway, welcome back dude, it's good to see you again. It's awesome when oldies return, so be sure to stick around, there's new faces you'll have to get used to, but they're probably not that scary, though if they are, I'll sort them out, if you know what I mean.

That sounds cool, unfortunately I wouldn't know anything, but what I do know is, that sure a project would be pretty sweet. I know fallen one was talking about the idea of using speech recognition in an AppGameKit App, but obviously, we don't have anything at the moment that would make use of it. I can see there being a market for this in AppGameKit apps, as speech recognition seems to have taken off with the Kinect and on mobile devices. I'm sure there's APIs out there that might be integrate-able with AppGameKit or DarkGDK.

@Travis, I don't think that was me, but another forum friend with a very similar name lol

@Diggsey, Hey! There's a familiar face. Let's see who still uses MSN messenger

@Seppuku, Hahaha yeah I guess the incorrect spelling is hardwired into my brain. Good to see your still around. Forum president I see, what does that mean? Any special privileges?

As for the speech recognition, I'm thinking I'll definitely have to use DarkGDK for the C++ access. The DBPro engine will make all the little things easier, as I won't have to waste code on simple things like text and GUI. As for which API to use, do you think just the simple Microsoft speech API would be good enough?

@Obese, Yeah I should change that, considering XenMedia.org doesn't even exist anymore lol.

I get this cool badge. Oh and I get to ban anybody who mispells my name.

To be honest, I wouldn't know. I know there's some open source speech recognition software out there as well. It might be worth checking out any communities that may employ use of such software. I don't know of anybody here actually using any (though I could be wrong) only that there's people who probably wouldn't mind using it. But I suspect something like Microsoft Speech API would have good support...or at least, I'd hope.

Oh yeah, that was Xarshi that did Xenophysics. I just thought it was you because your name starts with Xeno.

Im not sure of any other than Microsoft’s, and that’s subpar to say the least. Though I had a similar idea a while ago that involved using Microsoft’s speech SDK and OpenCV so that the program could talk and detect its surroundings (via a webcam and OpenCV for object recognition). You could even take it one step further and have it communicate with a microcontroller, that in turn controlled an actual robot.

It's so awesome to see everyone I used to talk to still keepin TGC alive

@Sepp and Melancholic,
After a few tests with the Microsoft SAPI 5.1 (the one that's compatible with windows xp) I've come to realize that the speech recognition is extremely subpar. There are, however, a few other API's here and there on sourceforge and among the interwebz that might be more promising. Who knows. So far it seems like speech recognition is still in its very early stages and the only practical software out for it right now is probably very expensive. I'm gonna keep digging though

@Agent Dink, yo man! Maybe I'll catch online today, I'd love to see what you've been up to.
