I was at a gaming convention today and was able to play this game called Child of Eden. I don't know if the developers were smoking ether or something, but it was an experience like non I've ever had before. I had great fun playing the game.

The concept art was amazing to see as well, I'd upload some images but unfortunately taking pictures was prohibited.

Spoiler because it's a playthrough video.

I didn't watch the walk through I watched the trailer. It's hard to make out what the game is from the trailer, but you can see that it is made from cubes. It looks good whatever the game might be.

Thanks a lot for the share, Comet, I really enjoyed that (despite having to pause it for a break every now and then - I'm epileptic and it's night time, lol)! The game is amazingly creative with what it has! Brilliant use of primitives, and excellent lighting effects too. Really has a polished look. I also loved how all the SFX actually integrated with the music!

... But you know I was thinking that mechanically, this game is fairly simple (so far as I saw). With the right skill, it could have even been made using DBPro. Just goes to show how if a developer can think out the box, they came make something great without a million side quests, over 100 unique-looking npcs and 1000 spells! I'm so glad to see a mainstream game that focuses on fun gameplay rather than all these complexities that so many modern games are suffering from. Am tempted to look for more vids, but I don't want to spoil it for myself for when it gets ported to PC (or when/if I get a ps3).

Went through the walkthrough, reminds me of Tron!

I was interested, until the guy's narration started and all I saw through the entire game was colorful cubes. Looks really boring and pointless.

Yeah I totally agree with you that it's pointless and from what I can gather, the storyline is pretty-much an attempt to give a story to a game that doesn't need one.
However, I think that it's a game that's about the gameplay rather than anything else. And the gameplay looks fun. I'll cite Galaga on NES here: I spent hours on that thing when I was a kid. The game basically consisted of:
Shoot the badguys.
Get to the next level (when they're all dead).
The badguys get faster.
Shoot the badguys.
There were only two types of incoming formations the spacebugs took and one final formation once they had ?"landed"?. There was one other ?"weapon"? which involved letting your ship get captured and then freeing it so you had two ships on a screen giving you double firepower. The only break in the game's repetition were the bonus stages. Still it was fun nonetheless. Basically this game is catering to those casual gaming moments, but doing so in a very stunningly visual way. Personally I would prolly buy it. I'd play it as well - but not for hours every day as I may get bored too.

The gameplay is repetitive, but the combination of the extremely artistic visuals and cool music make you not notice that you're basically doing the same thing over and over. It's very well designed and like I said, I had fun and played it for a good hour or so.

All art is pointless when you put it that way. Besides, if you continue watching it's not just cubes, every world has a different style.
