Edit: Backdrop Texture adjusment using a test image

Edit: latest Tower Defense Video link attached

ok so since i bought DarkGDK 2.0 i am planning on 3 projects

1. Project M that some of you may know , at this part im still trying to figure out how to make it run better and smoother before working on the multiplayer and player expriance for now i got some tweaks for the virtual world and i managed to lower the poly count about 1/4 then the original so it runs better but still needs some improvment.

2. a chess game that my lil bro thought about, this project is kept in kinda secret but it will be an awesome chess game.

3. got a little bored started playing tower defense games that i really enjoy and thought well why not build one..

so here is an example of the tower defense game i just started it
so this is about 3 hours of work no towers no creeps just the engine that runs behind it , enjoy and you know what if you have suggestion for the tower defense game pls share

btw in the Tower Defense game the map like Project M is randonly generated so my aim is to make it a casuall game where you can play it over and over again and not get bored

file attached to see another map just run the game again and again each time a new map is created.

Looking good, I like how you handled AI navigation.

Could use some visual polishing.
* Something to fill the blue void.
* VFX (Particles, muzzle flashes, bullets, explosions, smoke)
* Models for the towers and enemies.
The visual effect's will especially juice up the gameplay.

ofcourse i actully just finished the first simple tower need to be pulished but just wanted to try it out.

my thought about graphics is not really touching them until the engine behind the game is completed then all i'll left to do is add the graphic content.

for now i completed the Sell,Buy, creep paid if hit , creep reached end etc..

still much to do but it comes along very nicely

also i thought of adding stuff to the blue area but have no clue what to do , im thinking now maybe building some buildings across the map where the creep path is at the middle and just randomizing building near it.

but not sure about it need to relax and think stuff trough

ty for your response.

i'll handle the towers , for blocks all the blocks will be one block source , so you can try creating blocks and i'll choose , you know what if you'll create more then one block i'll be able to random between then at level startup for 1 source block or a several for a game session.

what i would like is some extra misc stuff but if you do that think of a theme , so all misc stuff will look nice together creating an athmosphere.

edit:
and no need for isometric since its a full 3d game.

ok so Tower defense is on its 4th day , look at the progress

towers are now shooting induvidual creeps instead of hitting all in range
the basic tower got remodeled and textured.

i tried to add Spraky Collision to the bullets that comes out of the tower but it got messed up thinking of doing ray collision or just to check if the creep is in the tower's range , selecting one creep then shooting so just some visual effects instead of bullets.. i dont know yet will think of it tonight and see whats going on tommarow

also i created a green arrow that runs on the path , kinda cool not really needed but increase the visual of the game.

also lives system and case system works now.
so for each creep you kill you will get some credits, and if a creep reaches the end point you will lose one life.

tommarow i think i'll create sprites for these 2 system and see the graphic change in game.

good night.

they are perspective views of the blocks with varying tops which you can place anywhere in a grid based map... add collisions and the AI characters move up and down giving a sense of depth if this is not what you were looking for I will drop it...

EDIT

These are proof of concept images not the actualy blocks I must add...

also as i mentioned yesterday ive added hearts to represent the amount of lives the player have.

i think that by next week there will be a playable demo

sorry for not posting the progres ive been working my ass off at my job and today im working like 15 hours..

ive added a range object which shows the range of the tower if you hover with your mouse on it , also added a simple wave system that when the last creep of the current wave is dead a new wave with higher health points starts, nothing fency..

i could also say that altough i have only one tower its kinda fun to play i am also expriancing major crushes ive doubled checked my entire code and found nothing yet i might be just missing something with the creeps or turret or bullets vectors something is probably not cleaning up right and it might cause a crush , i get 3 crushes one for dbPickObject other at dbSync() and another an Acsses violation error which probably becouse of the vectors however i dont get a vector error where the compiler throws be to the vector file.. ahh i dont know i'll need to search more , the game is playable but with potiential crushss and maybe its DarkGDK 2.0 rc4 that might have some bugs probably has some bugs just dont know if the error i getting is related.

well, good day

project is still not stable and may crush from times to times.

ive re-edited some parts of the code and it works better but still crushes , i dont want to release a demo yet cause of this and it might just be RC4
issue.

for example i stoped using the automatic id selection GDK offers and went for a simple yet effecient

it may takes more time to achive the free id but its safe and allows me to debug better.

so as i mentioned yesterday , towers now have a radius circle object and you can see it if you select a tower with your mouse.

i want to continue working on it but i kinda not know why i get errors so i cant really continue , well maybe i will but still it will be unstable which kinda sux..

keep tune for next videos and possible playable (not stable) demo.

Why have you stopped using the automatic ID allocation..? Your method will become extremely slow as you create more objects.

day 8 - 9 , Game Is Now STABLE!

altough it runs on 35 fps (on my laptop i guess that on PC it will run even better) it is now stable.

updates:

Tower Upgrade , towers can now be upgraded each tower has 10 levels, if you click on a tower you will get 2 things, one you will see the radius of the tower to hit those damn creeps and second you will upgrade it if you have the money.

the main update today is that the game is now stable (i think) ran it a couple of times without brakes or crushes , so thats a huge update.

for now no video cause i want to work on it some more but i can now say that the Tower Defense Engine is nearly complete and soon it will be the time of content and art , any thoughts of a theme or themes for it?
like Human Defense Force against Aliens or monsters or undead..

come on , Share it with me lets see where we are gonna take this project!

have an awesome day i know im having one!

lost track of which day is it
had to work really hard at work
and at my spare time i worked on TD game.

so whats new:

Waves of creeps are now triggered by a timer and not by if all creeps of the current wave are dead.

Wave Timer is now represented at the lowest part of the screen by 49 objects , each WaveTimer / 50 objects updates turning a Green object into a red Object when all of the timer objects are red a new Wave will start.

Tower Upgrade will now increase the tower size so you could know really quick what is upgraded and what not.
also the tower upgrade is represnted by ranks, 9 at total .
each rank with its own rank image and its kinda cool. still need to modify the ranks so the game wont be too easy.

i have also tried to create a tower menu but no need.
ive decided that the left mouse click is for build and upgrade
and the right mouse click is for selling the tower , this way the game is very simple and very fun to play instead of all kind of menus and stuff, just keeping it simple and clean.

also i dont know if i wrote about the BenchMark function i created a few days ago to check FPS and see if there are any problems.

so a simple benchmark that fills the map with towers and when the game start all of them are working , frame rates are on 60-59 which is awesome and the game works well. i havent had a crush for some days now and thats good. i will upload a video later on today or tommarow, until then , have an awesome day!

i have made one small adjusment , instead of seeing the blue area behind the game map entities i used dbTextureBackdrop and puted a test image , the game actually got juiced up by alot cause it is easier on the eyes and much more fun to play.

Well done! How far (in terms of days) you are in development? My suggestion so far is to change the background image. I think it distracts too much.

Suspect you deserve a badge for a first game made in GDK 2.0.

You have to promise that you'll finish the game to a playable state. Otherwise ribbon will self-destroy.

Looks goods. If I was aiming for more polished look I would use particles from "3D Cloth & Particles" it now comes for free with DBPro and should be included in GDK as well (not sure, haven't checked yet). It allows you to define colliders for particles. This will restrict blood to map walls.

Speaking of signature I suggest you use direct link to image hosted by TGC: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/xt/xt_apollo_pic.php?i=2378306

That way it won't disappear (unlike many images hosted for free).

EDIT: Since it's too big for a signature anyway (unless you want mods to erase it from your sig) you could resize it and attach to any of the posts here and then put a link in your signature to the image attachment. Once again it won't get deleted unless TGC goes down. Which hopefully is unlikely.

update:
0-0-0-0-

i am pleased to announce Bullet Effects!

what are bullets effects you ask ?
well if you have played Tower Defense games before
you probably used diffrent types of towers
like flame throwers , ice towers, electric bounce and other kinds like poision and stuff.

so i wondered how would i apply these in my game first i thought that each tower will have its own effect but since the bullets in my game work as a standalone regardless the tower they came from a bullet effect must be applied.

therefor bullet effect.
i have worked for a few hours and implented an Ice effect that makes the creeps slow down and added another effect(still in development) Splash, so each Ice bullet effect all near by creeps it wont take dmg off them just add the slow down effect.

beside that ...
i am still struglling to find the HUD or Menu bar that will enable a player to choose what tower he wants to builds so im still thinking about it havent code anything yet i have a nice idea for it but im not really sure about it.

at the start of the day today i have jucied up the creeps , health bar , waves and towers just to see whats going on i played for 30 minutes and saw that the game start easy and then becomes extremlly hard , so what i did as i needed the extra cash from the creeps but becouse they are too hard to kill i couldnt so i did this:
each creep that finishes the path will not die , instead it will restart at the Start Point with the same Health points it had when it reaches the end point, so now you have better chance to get the extra cash you thought you lost.

the downside is that now there are too many creeps , but not to worry the Splash Tower will kill them all

good day

-0-0-0-0

new and good stuff have been added.

1. creeps health bar - each creep with its own Health status is now shown above it with box presenting how much hp left.

2. Upgrades , each time you upgrade a tower or a trap you will see some blue particles going upwards from its position.

3. Ice Tower , the ice effect and splash effect works great, still havent comeup with a model for the tower so for now its the same as the simple tower but it shoots blue ice bullets.

4. Tower or Trap selector is now controlled by
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 buttons like you would choose a weapon in a FPS game, so clicking on 1 will choose the simple tower , clicking on 2 will choose the ice tower and so on, this is represented by small boxes at the bottom of the screen and the choosen tower or trap is presented by a green rectangle so you would know what your building.

this kinda not using only mouse as i wanted but its simple and cool so i think i will keep it this way.

a full gameplay video is added i have reached until level 19
it starts easy but then it goes insane , once i'll add more towers it will be achivable to get to higher levels.

good day

Update

So, new tower models.
All towers will look the same with a difference of color.
All towers will rotate on the y axis.
All towers will have a colored sphere above them.

Splash tower is now working also ice tower will lower the creeps movement speed .
The game now runs well without any errors which is a good thing and the tower defense platform is nearly complete!

The day of modeling and animating the creeps is near, also the current game is really hard and I will have to adjust it . The plan is to make it a casuall arcade game.

Since the map is always changing the casuall gamer is in for a treat
A new video with the new towers will be up soon , have an awesome days .

Update::

ok so i have reedited some stuff:

towers will now be upgraded automaticly as they gain expriance from hitting creeps

still there is a cash system for buying and upgrading towers but if you dont want to spend the cash on upgrades the towers will gain levels automaticly which makes the game a bit more fun just to see what happens..

thinking of Intel AppUP but first i'll finish the game
the day of creep modeling is very near also the demo .

still searching for ways to protect my files and i wont release anything until then, so if you want to help out in a way of protecting my files please respond.

ty and have an awesome days!

ok so if you rad the posts you will know the current progress of the game i have promised a demo by about this date today , still there are no creeps models they are just cubes running around the path
there are 5 towers there is an image in the rar file that explains all towers, to choose a tower you simply tap 1 to 5 on the top of your keyboard , then hitting with the mouse button where you want to build it.

i played the game today and got as far as level 30

the game starts easy then become really hard so enjoy
