Two friends and I made a game at the TIGJam event here in Melbourne a month ago, and are going to release it as open source next week. We've spent a little time tweaking it, and getting any show-stopper bugs out, and now we are looking for people to play it and answer a few questions!

You can play the game at it's website (Made in Unity): http://www.theyloveyou.net

Below are the questions we'd like answered. It's important that you play the game BEFORE looking at the questions

Thanks for looking!

- at the second level, the player needs to learn a vital game function. Was this obvious?

Took about 60 seconds to realise

- How long before you get tired of the game concept?

was playing for about 15 minutes, still enjoyable

- Did you find anything that felt wrong, or broken?

The first level with 4 bombs took 1 bomb to solve
The following level with 2 bombs took 1 bomb to solve
(stopped playing at this point)

- Did you have a good time?

Yes

- What would you change?

It needs to be written in DBP or AppGameKit
You could make the cubes into something else (fly and spiders? sheep and wolves?)

Nice game!

Well it said press space at the top so...

- How long before you get tired of the game concept?
I thought the concept was fine, but perhaps there could be more types of level features to make it more interesting?

- Did you find anything that felt wrong, or broken?
I really hate it when games mess with the controls, why does the player constantly try to move to the top left?

- Did you have a good time?
Yeah, it was fun.

- What would you change?
Just the things I mentioned above.

I loved it. Really simple, really obvious, nicely executed.

I was confused at first as the red enemies seemed to indicate they could kill me. I restarted a level everytime one was about to touch me. Maybe play with those colors?

Loved the End?-level - since depict1 I've been a sucker for that sort of ending. The level after End? is my favorite in the game, but I got tired of the game a level after that. Levels started feeling too dependent on random mutations than on my actions as a player.

after a couple failed attempts, i decided to look for instructions and found the freeze bomb reference.

eh, pretty quickly. i lost interest after the first 4-bomb map. i see there is a little strategy to contemplate but not enough to keep my interest.

Quote: "Did you find anything that felt wrong, or broken?"

the music. it led me to blieve it was a more-casual game. being bombarded by my admirers wasn't so casual.

also, akin to batvink's point, (i think) i was able to go to locations that i wasn't supposed to without using bombs. i entered running back mode; made a few juke moves, a couple straight arms, dragged the opposing team into the end zone with me and was probably more successful at this strategy than was to be allowed

Quote: "Did you have a good time?"

good enough to offer feedback on it.

Quote: "What would you change?"

color the freeze bomb text red and, maybe, go to a little more-frantic music.

ummm... i'll leave it at that unless you want to make a "i love them back" sequel with grenades, mines, rocket launchers, plague-carrying varmints, and an evil god or 2 to contend with.

thanks for sharing.

Obvious. Figured it out right away.

Quote: " - How long before you get tired of the game concept?"

3rd level. Maybe I'm just not in the mood? Seemed tedious.

Quote: " - Did you find anything that felt wrong, or broken?"

Things played right.

Quote: " - Did you have a good time?"

Meh. Tedious.

I wonder if you would make them not accelerate until later, it would give me more incentive to keep going to see what happens in the playing field. For example, after 5th or 6th level, they start accelerating. Maybe the want moar brains?? Also, tell a story, there was no story And not with words, but with what we see on the playing field.

Thanks for the taking the time to have a look, guys, and the feedback is fantastic. There are a few things in the game that aren't communicated well enough, and seeing the types of comments coming back confirms a few things. With the Freeze Bombs, it's possible to make it through most of the levels without using any. It's a challenge.

Changes to how the game plays are very easy to make, as is making levels themselves. If you are interested, the source for the project is on the website, along with a video of how to make levels, change things, etc. The whole project is very easy to navigate, and a great intro to Unity if you haven't used it.

Again, thanks for the feedback!!

Maybe you need the "3 stars" type grading you get in so many games these days. You could base it on Freeze Bombs used and time taken, or maybe even length of path taken. IT would take a lot more effort on your part to get the grading system right, there's a fine line between achievement and frustration.

Cheers for the continued feedback!

We've been featured on Indiegames.com, and retweeted a heap, which is fantastic.

Again, if you are at all interested, all the source is there on the site!

Cheers for playing, people.

One thing we've noticed, and a few of you mentioned it here, the difficulty curve is probably a bit steep. This is pretty easily solved, and might make it into further revisions of the game (if we do them!).

It's good to see the positive reaction though, and there is even a video of some dude playing it on youtube!
