So I know im 30 years too late but i've recently got into star trek the next generation and i love it. The stories are awesome and a lot of them are really....weird but I like it.
to think this all came about because of Discord...(based on Q, one of my favorite characters.) another favorite is Data. The way he tries to understand human emotion makes it more funny then it's meant to be. Commander Riker is a good supporting character (or supporting main character whatever you prefer.) Jean-luc picard is the most intriging character in the show. It also seems he'll never find any love what so ever. Things between him and Beverly crusher seem to be fluxating (sorry for misspelled). He meets Vash who is basically a user and only in for self gain. then there was that probe they found in space which made picard live on a planet that died 1000 years ago, He lived his who life in a manner of 25 minutes and apparently the people of the planet remember him for what ever reason. Then there's the fact that he go turned into a borg and was responsible for the death of 11,000 people, including the death of Comander Sisko's wife. There were a few episodes that made me go: WTF. for example the episode(s) Descent I/II. the way data behaved was awesome, and lore.........what can be said of Lore.....if there ever was an evil twin, he'd be it; Ruthless, full of emotion, cunning. Lore proves that having emotions for an android could be considered dangerous. man, i could go on and on.. but i doubt anyone is interested in all this

I am interested. as a new gen star treck next gen fan. eg post 2011 I find the law fascinating. I am a brand new star treck fan. I greatly appreciate captain picards logic and starfleet law. i have watched up until after pickard was abducted and assimilated by the borg. I love the scientific process of the series. as a brand new star treck fan i will admit that the series is literally timeless, which only adds to its value as a document of fictional post modern humanity. I love the show and value any law related to its storyline and premise. I never thought i would part my fingers in a star treck salute but damn, the series has credible value. peace out.(treckie salute)

ps. I must say that the difference between data and his bigger brother leads to all sorts of philisophical and moral debates on the subject of ai and perception of reality. just like any good star treck episode. I will feel sad i think when i have seen all the star treck episodes, there is a special place in history where that level of enquiry led to the options portrayed by the series at that point in time. it is beatiful and timeless and I can only see them for the first time once. which is sad. I dig star treck and what it stands for. Live long and prosper people.

Star Trek TNG is considered by many the best star trek series ever. and Yes, Data's and Lore's story does raise many questions and concerns about AI and machine learning, can a machine become alive given time? what would be the consquences of giving the AI strong emotions before they had time to fully get used to them? if an AI was given too much without time to process that data, they would be over-whelmed and either blow up, or go crazy (in the care of lore). One thing that also got me was the episode skin of evil. from season one, (i'm not sure how many people have seen this series so i'll leave spoilers out even though it just occured to me i may have spoilered a little by mentioning the picard/borg situation.)

thankyou for leaving out the spoilers for episode skin of evil. I have not seen it. I must say that the data vs lore episode raised many logical debates. I consider data to be one of my favorite star trek characters. his logic and insight is to die for even though his deficiencies are heavily emphasized in every episode. I have always identified with data as a being. I anticipate all future star treck episodes. and just hope all future episodes are stronger in premise than voyager. I enjoyed some of their story lines and some of their characters however I found janeway a deficient captain. i did like the other characters however.

anyway it is nice to talk treck. I never got it before recent times.

We have the entire Next Generation collection. I remember when it first came out in '87 and how it looked compared to the Original Series when we grew up. The highlight was seeing the newer Romulan Warbirds compared to the Romulan ships in the Original series.

I still enjoy it to this day, and get a few ideas or concepts just from watching it. We Trekkies are everywhere.

I may have to check them out on net flix, although i do enjoy waiting for new episodes. star trek night is a big night in my weekly calendar. (three in a row episodes every thursday night)
I have been looking into borrowing them from my local video shop so i can get a big injection of new episodes)(while i wait for more Dexter episodes) Like i said before I never appreciated the star treck law before I started watching the series on TV. Credit where credit is due. star treck is brilliant. full stop.
