ooh I was just watching the Yogscast Tekkit series and I'd love to play with it on a server. Would we all have to install the mod or could we just log onto the server?
I don't think minecraft has a legitimate way to play hardcore pvp yet. I agree that having protected zones is a bad compromise but what is the alternative? If people can just destroy anything as easily as it's built there's no point in building anything.
Here's a possible solution: What if instead of giving total protection, claimed zones only prevented enemy pickaxes working; then you wouldn't be able to simply mine through a wall, you'd have to go over the top or breach the wall with TNT. However, axes and shovels still work so building your base out of dirt or wood is unsafe.
Also you'd only be allowed to place wooden planks when inside enemy territory, the reasons for this are two-fold: 1. Wooden Planks have to be crafted and take a while to gather, this forces people to plan their attacks rather than just grab any materials on the battlefield. 2. Siege towers were made of wood so it simply looks better than noob poles of dirt or cobble.
Ladders are also allowed to be placed in enemy territory, it's a quick way in but you're exposed to archers.
Yes I have been playing a lot of Mount & Blade Warband.
So is that stuff possible? Would it require a mod to impose those restrictions? Can we work together to do it or something similar? We are coders after all.
I realise that Obsidian cannot be destroyed by TNT but I like that, it means you can have a vault that is completely secure but only if you're prepared to mine out a block every time you go in there, so there's a cost for that level of security. And if someone mines enough Obsidian to build their walls out of then I'd say they deserve to have impenetrable walls.
Shh... you're pretty.
