Hey guys, I think a mod here (i forget who!) had a MC server running for a while, and it was quite popular, but the thread seems to have dropped away. If any of you have the time to check out my attempt that would be great:- it's a little different than your average server, its more 'vanilla' and has a semi anarchic theme - anything goes. I hope you enjoy it. (if you dont have minecraft check out www.minecraft.net, but shame on you if you browse this board and dont!)

Freedomnas Review

[Code]When I first joined their server I was skeptical. However within five minutes of playing, my mind changed. So when I say this is probably the best server I played on, believe it.Spawn Room: When you are as lucky as me (or you just smeared creeper bait all over you), you will be spending a lot of time here so its a good idea for the server to have a good looking spawn room and do they have on. Unlike other rooms I see that usually place the same 3 materials (Gold, Diamond, Obsidian) this one has a nice jungle temple theme to it. Makes one not want to leave. It also functions as a good spawn as well since it stops spawn killing. So 5/5 for the spawn.Difficulty: When they say this server is hard, believe it. You start off with your fists and the clothes on your back (and that is only because they have yet to find a way to remove either.) and after that, well run. This server is full of PVP and Mobs. However there is a point where it go's from hard, to frustrating. The most common cause of death is Starvation do to the lack of good food mob locations (I have yet to find one that wasn't over a 500ft cliff or a chicken) and if your like me, you will be stuck in the stone age for a bit with hard to find diamond veins. 4/5 for difficulty.Community: One of the most important parts of a server is community, else why bother playing multiplayer at all if there is no multiple players? This server usual has 5-8 people on at a time. Very good for a new server, however due to constant fear of raiding people live very far away. One guy claims to live 10 minecraft days (or five hours) away. This to me makes the game feel too alone.(So far my only interaction has been either; geting 5 beef from a kind stranger, or getting stabbed in the back by a some-what friendly stranger) Luckily there is global chat but still, nothing beats going into the mines with a friend and just mining away. 2/5 for CommunityNo Donation Overpoweredness: If community is not the most important part of a server, this is. Servers these days seem to go to the extreme and offer everything for sale. I seen admin ranks (along with ban features) for sale, god-mode on pvp servers, creative on hardcore survival servers. Just complete insanity. However this server is the exception to the rule, might even go to the other extreme, bit too little (at least for me). You can by access to being able to use buckets, flints, and ender-chests. That is it. Nothing overpowered at all (however it does dash my dream of opening a farm so I stop being hungry...) 5/5 for No Donation OverpowerednessOver all score: 4/5

Toffeegerbils Review

I found this server the day of its creation. Long have I been looking for a server where you can play "real" minecraft. Minecraft is a sandbox game, you really should play it however you want to. Without any aggressive plugins and rules you can play how you want. Make Alliances, raid, build secret bases with your friends. Its what the SMP community need. The regulars are great, every day there will be new players coming in wondering why they cant spawn kits and why they cant use "/tpa", they often starve on the first night and quit. It weens out the kids, and creative-casuals. This server allows you to explore and build the way you should, you need to travel with friends and both set beds to be able to use /home. This is better than the completely unrealistic teleportation some servers have.It rewards the smart, use coordinates, raid at night. Overall the best part is being a member of a newly born community. You can see the economy grow, technologies change and new regulars take root in the server. If you have to try only one survival multiplayer server: Make it North Valley.

Ksummers Review

[Code]After playing on this server for nearly a week now I just thought I should post saying how much I have enjoyed my stay!On have played on a number of servers before and grew sick and tired of people I have raided before, buying admin, ruining my experience on the game due to a grudge they held and being able to do nothing about it due to the fact they "Helped support the server"This is why I think North Valley is the one for me as I've had the chance to play the way I wanted to play without other players getting an unfair advantage!

I see you guys are on now! Sorry there was some downtime last night as I did not set a backup limit, there were about 7 200-300mb backups with VPS memory of 2.2gb, it soon filled itself up whilst I was sleeping and crashed.

All sorted now, hope you guys are enjoying the server.
Its quite peaceful at the moment but im sure things will change when it gets popular. Spending most of my time advertising at the moment.

Could have been worse, the server I played on got eaten by a livemap plugin. It ran out of HDD space and started eating plugins...

Would you consider running a tekkit server?

ooh I was just watching the Yogscast Tekkit series and I'd love to play with it on a server. Would we all have to install the mod or could we just log onto the server?

I don't think minecraft has a legitimate way to play hardcore pvp yet. I agree that having protected zones is a bad compromise but what is the alternative? If people can just destroy anything as easily as it's built there's no point in building anything.

Here's a possible solution: What if instead of giving total protection, claimed zones only prevented enemy pickaxes working; then you wouldn't be able to simply mine through a wall, you'd have to go over the top or breach the wall with TNT. However, axes and shovels still work so building your base out of dirt or wood is unsafe.
Also you'd only be allowed to place wooden planks when inside enemy territory, the reasons for this are two-fold: 1. Wooden Planks have to be crafted and take a while to gather, this forces people to plan their attacks rather than just grab any materials on the battlefield. 2. Siege towers were made of wood so it simply looks better than noob poles of dirt or cobble.
Ladders are also allowed to be placed in enemy territory, it's a quick way in but you're exposed to archers.

Yes I have been playing a lot of Mount & Blade Warband.

So is that stuff possible? Would it require a mod to impose those restrictions? Can we work together to do it or something similar? We are coders after all.

I realise that Obsidian cannot be destroyed by TNT but I like that, it means you can have a vault that is completely secure but only if you're prepared to mine out a block every time you go in there, so there's a cost for that level of security. And if someone mines enough Obsidian to build their walls out of then I'd say they deserve to have impenetrable walls.

Shh... you're pretty.

That's totally possible Obese, but I reckon it'd need to be a new mod. I'm sure there are enough interested people on here to make it happen though

You download the technic launcher, which will install the mod you choose from the drop down menu into its own folder, not overwriting your original minecraft install. Then just login through the launcher.

Server's down again. Somehow I'm doubting the 98% uptime claim.

Same here. Just tried again and it said it was online but nobody was playing. Tried connecting and got an error saying "Connection reset". Tried it a few more times with the same result, and now it's just saying "Communication error" in the server list.

I've been working hard on improving what started as a simple house. I thought I'd take some pictures before it gets destroyed by griefers!

Exterior - North-East|South-East|South-West|North-West Balcony
Main Hall - 1|2|3
Greenhouse - 1
Workshop - 1
Enchanting & Potions Room - 1|2|3

I'm really pleased with it and there's more to come. I'm planning on building a railway to a nearby village, including two stations. That's a huge project though and wont be done for a long time.

I have found an incredible plugin that is highly relevant to TGC,

http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/edit-_3dprint-v1-2-print-3d-models-saved-as-3ds-1-2-5-r1-0.69789/

It prints out your minecraft models into a 3ds file!!!!!

E.g. you draw something in minecraft cubes and it will turn it into a model for you

this is genius!
