You probably have a virus.

Usually they don't get them all. When your computer doesn't start up it's often a virus. Well I have never been able to fix all viruses, and when my computer doesn't boot up I re-install windows, and it goes away. I have fixed a couple of Boot block viruses, that stop the computer booting up, that's about the last chance.

It could easily be caused by a virus, your best bet is to back-up and reinstall Windows.

did you try going back to a restore point?

and this restore from a command prompt, if necessary.

my best guess is something got bugged when you installed the "older" game (and uninstalling it doesn't uninstall everything/other changes that were made); back up to (well) before then and see how things work.

I'd say virus, or maybe just simply instability in the windows, your best bed is restore point or reinstall of the operating system

Did you try starting in safe mode to see if it boots up then? Everyone else is yelling virus, but I've had my computer refuse to start for other reasons before as well. (e.g., faulty drivers.) But, if the restore point didn't fix it (I'm guessing restore points disable drivers installed after that point) then it could be a virus, I suppose.

Personally, I always just re-install Windows. It's the easiest thing to do and it takes less time than hunting viruses.

Cheers,
Aaron

Did you try selecting normal start and bashing F8 then booting into safe mode witb networking (only if you need it otherwise use regular safe mode...)

If that faols to load... Its a virus some pratt created because he was pathetic and useless and hopeless and needs to take a cold bath... Anyway... If you can use safe mode albeit normal boot... Just copy/backup your data somewhere and then do a clean format... It is a good thing to do from time to time I find personally...

Good luck...!

EDIT

*sigh* typo...

I just want to point out that when infected by a virus(s) restoring to an earlier point isn't always a good idea, Ive had more than a few viruses infect my restoration files.

If I were you I'd try to boot info safe mode, perform any virus/malware scans you feel necessary, then schedule a scandisk (chkdisk) error check. You could also try running the "system file checker" by opening a command prompt and typing (may ask for your windows cd):
SFC /scannow

If you still suspect that an infection is to blame, the dudes over on the malwarebytes forum are very helpful when it comes to analyzing "hijack this" logs.

I'm presuming its a virus, but just to be original - How much space did you have on C:\ drive prior to shutting down your PC?
