I can't help but think that video games sales are doing about the same as everything else right now, with the exception of alcohol and gambling.

I find it hard to take this seriously.

The article mentions it's talking about physical sales.

So yeah, gamestops could be hurting (I know I barely use them). Steam/desura/internets are as strong as ever.

July/August sales of almost everything goes down every year its called the holiday/vacation period when people keep their money for rides at Disneyworld it doesn't mean the demise of anything like Gaming or Entertainment. Unless your someone that spends their vacation playing Games your going to keep your cash. Its an annual thing just like when Christmas comes round you expect sales to go up.

Depending on the current economy sales can be higher or lower than previous years but as long as people have money of any sort they will keep spending it, depends on their priorities which seem to get more skewed every year that goes by.

Awesome! Its one of those threads.

I can assure you this also happens in Electrical Retail. Summer is dead, because people turn to the outdoors for fun and amusement, and stop using their TVs/games so much, so both things get less attention. (No big game releases in Summer for precisely this reason.)

But of course, Christmas counterbalances this.

I tend to buy physical copies of games. my internet is so slow and expensive it would cost more to download a game than the game costs itself as a physical copy. I havn't played skyrim since that 3 gig update patch for that same reason.

I think its going ok. I live in a small coastal town and the difficulty of business here is readily apparent. all the time you see opening soon signs in empty shops, grand openings then discount sales, everything must go sales, closing down sales, empty shop again. there is at least 4 empty shops on every block (6 block strip). It's a little sad to see and I feel worried for the excited people setting up shop.

The computer game store has been going strong for the whole time I have lived here. they even have 2 or three people behind the desk, which for the size of the place is bazaar.

it will be interesting to see if this changes as internet becomes cheaper.

Sometimes I like to use words out of contents

I like physically getting a sweet box full of manuals, posters, and cd's. I also liked the 90's.

Games are only getting stronger, and more legitimate as THE dominant cultural expression. They are all-pervasive, and the culmination of centuries of art.

Also, love seeing people mention Desura I work in the same building as the Desura guys, and they do a good thing!!

When the indie humble bundle, steam sales and everything else was on, you say the sales are down?

Despite the recession in England, people still look for a escape ie games for kids, ale and games for adults
