I recently got into the World of Warplanes closed beta and was wondering if using a joystick would improve my playing ability over using a mouse? If so does anyone have any suggestions for one to get?

I found in other flight sims it's vastly improved.

The ms range of flight controllers are quite nice. I recommend also having foot pedals but a three axis controller also works fine. Saitek makes really nice joysticks as well.

I've had a look and found this joystick which seems reasonable. I don't want to spend too much on one until I really get into flight sims.

Eeee I'd be weary of offbrand controllers. It could make you hate flight sims I'd try ebay if you're looking for a bargain.

Ya that last one might be good. IDK though. I have this one though, and I was just able to go to a local store and pick it up. They are very common.

I used to own a Cyborg Joystick, they were great back in the day, and apparantly they are still pretty good now:

I like how this one has a dual throttle control for multiple engines!

Just ordered the Logitech Attack™ 3 Joystick, just have to wait for it to arrive and then I'll test it out to see if it improves playing flight sims.

Yeah let me know how it works for you. Also, I still highly recommend pedals. If you have a steering wheel laying around, you can usualy hook that up simultaneously and just use the peddles in the game, that's how I do it

If your getting a joystick with a throttle control, try and get enough cash to get one with a seperate throttle...

That joystick actually seperates in the middle, so you can setup the stick however you like, and it's only about £40.

Anyway, my point is that when the throttle control is part of the joystick, it can get really fiddly, going between the mouse, keyboard, and joystick with both hands overlapping. I think the most comfortable setup would be to have the joystick on the right and the throttle on the left, keyboard in the middle.

My Saitek joystick with the throttle just feels awkward, and really I'd be happier using a 360 controller than my joystick, just because of the throttle position. I'm planning on buying a new stick, for the new Mechwarrior game - if I can ever afford it, I will get that Razer Artemis controller, with the screen built in, designed especially for Mechwarrior.

It arrived on Monday so it came pretty quick as I ordered it on the Friday. I used it yesterday and it was so much better than using the mouse to fly the planes. I do have to agree with Van B on the throttle though, it is awkward to use, as you have to bend fingers and thumbs to keep all the other things going while you are chasing down an enemy xD (Though I found myself using the keyboard for the throttle in the end).

I'd recommend one if you fancy taking up flight simulators.
