Ok, then... I think I'll finish my poll now. I got 61 replies, and several days have gone by since last reply. Thank you for all who replied.

So, here are the results.

interestingly enough, you'd make twice as much money selling a game at 6 dollars than selling for 1 dollar to the survey takers, and you'd have to support 1/3 the number of customers!

That's pretty surprising to me anyway, thought more would tick 1$ and none, i know I ticked: none, 1$ and 1-3$

I'm surprised at the lack of people willing to pay 6 or higher. I'd pay upwards of 50 bucks for a really good game, if I really wanted it.

On a mobile device? Seriously?

I think we should write messages with signatures.

Heck yeah I would. It'd have to be really good though. Like ff7 good. I particularly like mobile games because I have a lot more time available to play those. So something really good makes me open my wallet. Unfortunately the dynamics of the market place stores makes it impossible to get those kind of (50 dollar epic pieces of work) games

No way i'm paying 50$ for a mobile game, there's absolutly no way.

6$ would be absolute max - on the standards you just stated: it'd have to be REALLY good.

I paid approx. £10 for Final Fantasy III (3D version) on my iPod Touch. Compared it to the one on the DS? You get a higher resolution on the iPod, that's about it. Cheapest for DS right now? £13 on Amazon. Back when I bought it for my iPod Touch, it was more. As far as I was concerned it was a bargain. For me to pay console prices I expect console quality. Would I pay more than that? It'd have to be really worth it, but sure.

But for a typical game? No, I wouldn't, I'd expect between £0.99 and £3.99. £3.99 for the better games/apps.

Hello all!

Nice, I'm very happy that my survey brought up some discussion, although I wasn't expecting any

I am 80% certain that I'm going to put my projects for sale somewhere at some point, and I did this survey just to see people's interests. When I manage to get my projects started and eventually finished, I'll have to spend some time thinking about pricing/marketing... Maybe this unofficial survey gives me some guideline

P.S. All my programming and projects will be on ice for an undefined time because my common-law wife gave birth to our first child

How did you sample the 61 people? Are they people from the forums? What are the "Other" devices some people chose? What is a "Fluffy & Cute" game? "Casual" isn't really a genre, i.e. Angry Birds could be described as a physics puzzle game.

I think the way we define game genres is bad. Why do we form unique terms for genres when games can have such transitional mechanics? I'm going to start a thread about this so I don't hijack.

Shh... you're pretty.

@OBese87

I sent the link to the survey to my Facebook friends and asked them to share the link forward. I think not so huge success on that... I also sent that link to TGC and some other game making groups on Facebook. And of course this forum.

There were two devices answered under "Other", one MeeGo and one Symbian. And by "Fluffy & cute" I meant like girly games, which have cute animals and girly colors etc.

Nice survery, most of the awnsers where pretty expected though I was öretty suprised that strategy games didnt get more votes. I would love a good RTS for touch screens. I was also a bit suprised that android was that much bigger than iOS because among my friends, I think its the other way around...

RTS would probably work pretty darn well with a pen-thingy to use...

but otherwise, tower defence works very well on mobile

I think I participated in this poll... can not recall now...

I agree with jerico, a product has to be of quality to earn higher rates... games like CoD deserve to pay us to play them... [Although I did slightly enjoy playing against AI on Blackops multiplayer demo when it was free on Steam...] but CoD is just a reused engine so should not warrant 50 million of X currency to be played... if they rewrote the engine each time or every few releases then yeah sure that price is understandable... but not right now... Battlefield oe EA makes a great game, rebuilds a new engine, but then messes up the end game... creating multi tiers between players... and also making the game highly unplayable after a while... [I had a more accurate statement than unplayable but its 08:42am now and I forgot it lol]
