Hi everyone.

I am at my wits end with this issue. My old pc stopped booting and instead just reset every few seconds continuously.

my new hardware is doing the same thing now and it has got me baffled.

It is a brand new power source hooked up to a brand new motherboard and it is still just resetting every few seconds. It is even plugged into a different power outlet(one that works, it runs my tv)through a new power cable. still resets.

the motherboards lights come on and stay on.

I am pretty sure it is not the ram because even with a ram problem the machine will still powerup and give a beeping sound.

I have tried with and without cpu.

If you hook a powersource up to a motherboard and switch on the power, the power source fan should run. is that right? even without ram or cpu or anything else hooked up.

can anyone else get a motherboard to power up without a cpu and ram?

I have tried with almost every combination of my hard ware either included or removed and it still resets.

the motherboard has now been taken out of the case and placed on antistatic sheet on a cardboard box. It still resets.

I am leaning towards a CPU issue, but it does the same thing without a cpu even in there.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

thanks
kezzla

Most times there are two power cables to the motherboard. Did you plug them both in?

It might be the RAM, I had a computer that would almost do the same thing and that's what it turned out to be.

I don't know what you have so I'll just stick with the basics.

Take your system down to the bare essentials,,. in other words unplug or remove anything not needed to boot the system (drives, add-on cards (including video card if there is video on the motherboard), etc. Try to start the system with the monitor only, and then bring components back in until you find the source of the problem.

In my experience, reboots that are not caused by the power supply are caused by memory, be it RAM, cache, video, etc.

Good luck.

ok, thanks everyone.

all of my power cables are hooked up.

I have a brand new stick of ram

still the same issue.

and now after getting some sleep I have noticed something new

I was focusing on the cpu.

trying with it connected and not connected. I found that if there is no cpu the qcode leds will light up.
if i put in the cpu and lock it down then the gcode leds will not light up.

if i release the pressure from the lever arm and leave the cpu in place the fans run and the qcode leds light up.

the cpu does heat up so im pretty sure it is still working(i don't leave it on for long, just long enough to see that it isn't resetting)

I am wondering if the lever arm is pushing the cpu off its connections. is that possible?

will a dead cpu still heat up?

could try your multiplier setting, had same issue with mine when I first set it up, turns out my cpu didnt like defualts of outdated bios settings, read up on it, something about it having "holes" even when underclocked(which is what the defaults set it at)

Check for bent pins on your socket.

I think we should write messages with signatures.

check the cpu-vent if it runs. was the problem with my system, same description as yours. remove everything except power and motherboard (with cpu/ram on), so no gp-cards or dvd-drives nor harddrive, and see if it works.
