Just out of interest, why do you use Sketchup? Doesn't it have collision issues?

All browsers should come with compulsory spell checks.

@gamerguy, Cheers fella

@bobo, Just a personal preference, I had collsion issues when I first started using it (I used to convert the models to GTA Vice city or San andreas) But over time those have gone, Must be a modelling error I made..but clearing up any unused lines and chopping the model into smaller parts and LOD parts helps tons.

What perspective will this be viewed from? if it's from the sky the roof that building looks a bit too tiled.

Ok this ones a little messy but provides a bit of an outline for the city.

A little more work and it should start taking shape nicely

Opinions??

I'm trying to resist porting it to the game yet until there's enough to drive and run around on without hitting a hole every two seconds..

I'm not sure if the buildings would fit your motif but with some retextureing to make them cleaner there is TGC Model Pack 66 There are lots of old style buildings in .x format.

You are a talented artist and i admire your style of work.

You mentioned that these are models for a game. I am curious. What engine are going to use these models in?

Thanks! I haven't fully decided yet, I'm gonna see what I can get in DB Pro, and if it gets too much for it maybe move to UDK. But I want to get a fairly complete map before I start porting it to the game engine..

Foliage looks quite and fits in with the style, what's the target platform? I would mention the corner but I presume you're probably aware...

Yeh, the corners are the ones that take the longest to texture right in sketchup lol so I tend to wander from them and go back...Platform will be PC...maybe xbox if it works out.

That foliage will be replaced with a few more random trees ingame..those are just there for the render at the minute

Well I found some early development pictures of some of my models on image shack So thought I'd put them on..Some pictures are in GTA Vice City..as I used to mod those games alot..and started this map for that..so it may give some idea of how the game will come together..

And this one is where the whole map started...

It's nice work, but I really wouldn't call that advanced modeling. Most of the objects are components that come with sketchup object packs. Also, most models are just extruded boxes. But one thing I really liked was the metro scene.

One tip: Do not create models for games with Sketchup, because it doesn't support UV-mapping. Models end up with horribly repeated textures and you have to add texture to each face seperately. At least that's how it works in UDK.

There really is no reason to NOT to do games.

You should probably use a specific software for Uvmapping then blender or anything else..

Hey vortech..none of the models are components..all made myself apart from the vehicles (excluding the land rover that's my own model)

and for both, i have used sketchup for games for years and not had any trouble with collisions or texture mapping? )
