For the last 6 months or so and especially now with 1.3.2 update have shown and incredible high CPU usage to the point where it's maxing out i7's and worse very high temperatures. Now I have no clue what the dev team are doing but they've seem to take very little notice. But it's seems to become a very common issue and was wonder if other minecraftian's had notice this.

Now you come to mention it, mine has been hanging up occasionally to the point where I have to go and make a cup of tea and come back again after.

That's with a 2GHz C2D though :p

I've got an i7 with 8GB of ram and it's nearly maxing out the CPU. Ram can't be the issue. Something is conflicting with Java for it to be this high and no end of tinkering helped. And it seems no one at the moment knows why this is occurring

Already did that except that I allocated Java the maximum amount of memory it can use through the Java setting found in control panel. This video is actually on the minecraftforums:

Didn't work though and I can't see why it would unless you had a problem with java before the CPU usage sky rocketed. This issue is something else.

Well I had no issues about 6 months ago, then all of a sudden it started locking up/stuttering a long time. I found restarting the game fixed it for about 10 minutes, sometimes more sometimes less. It made the game pretty sucky to play. So it's worth a try for anyone having issues. This is my .bat file with 4gb ram total in my machine:

No more lockups.

If I allocate more memory to minecraft the CPU usage goes even higher. This is not a memory problem. And since Minecraft was running perfectly fine at 1920x1200 with fraps capturing fullscreen at 60 fps, something must of changed.

But what's more interesting about this happening for me is the first CPU spike corrupted a world generation and I saw something I've never ever seen, and that is chucks towers with different biomes ontop of a superflat type map:

I usually have 1 core at 80% or so and another around 20%. This is out of 6. BTW, this is with HD textures.

minecraft has frozen my computer for the last few builds. Not just program freezes but I actually have to hard reset my whole laptop. It is a bit annoying. The same thing happens no matter what settings I use.

Sometimes I like to use words out of contents

After 1.2.5 core things have changed slightly meaning Minecraft is more performance intensive. There were a few notes on it when 1.3 + was released. Mojang's response: Better CPU, More Ram (or allocated ram).
