Hi, ever since I saw the nexus 7 this summer, I have been interested in getting one of those. And a week ago I found a place in sweden that sells them. Originaly the nexus 7 was a clear choise because of the price, you can't get any other tablet with those specs for the price of the nexus 7. But since my birthday is comming up, my mom (Who dosn't realy like the fact that im getting a nexus ) offerd me that she would pay the diffirence between the nexus and a bigger tablet.

Right now I have 2 tablets that im looking into. The 7" nexus 7 or a asus transformer (infinity/pad/prime). Spec wise they are pretty much the same (tegra 3 and 1gb ram), the main diffirence is the size. The nexus 7 is a lot smaller while the transformers are full size 10" tablets. Since I allready have a 5" galaxy note, the nexus 7 may be a bit pointless while the 10" IMO may be a bit to bulky.

Another big thing about the transformers is that they have a real keyboard, essentially turning it into a laptop. This would be pretty usefull when coding (which I have done on my galaxy note) and if I get one, I will most liklet find some other things that it's usefull for to. Also the transformer have got more memory and is expandable. The nexus however only has 16gb memory and no way of expanding it.

So, what do you think, which one should I get? I have heard so many great things about the nexus, but the size and lack of memory is kind of making me consider the tansformer instead.

Edit: If forgot to mention that im most likley going to use the tablet mostly for gaming, and maybe developing on.

Go for the bigger tablet, with the keyboard.

You program on your note? I just got one, and it's awful to type on.

It's not as easy as on a computer and takes forever. But laying/sitting in a couch and doing some basic coding is pretty awesome.

Anyway, after some more research I will probably go for a Transformer infinity.

Would there be anything holding you back from an iPad? If you are looking simply at specs (which is never really a good idea with tablets but that's a separate issue) the 3rd generation iPad is no push over, and the retina display is very nice. The game selection on iOS is probably bigger too.

Of course, if you are roped into the Android ecosystem and/or are targeting Android as your primary development platform then the iPad may not be the best choice after all.

Well, I don't realy like the way apple do things, locking up the system (I like being able to access my own files) and suing everyone for everything. also developing for android is so much easier, and I like the OS better overall.

Why not wait a week or so and get a Windows 8 Tablet?

I like android...

But I do have a third option, to not get a tablet (or maybe get a nexus 7) and instead get an upgrade for my computer (a new graphics card and more ram. Do you guys that havr tablets use them that much?

Well, if you want a 10" tablet I would say there are only 2 really good choices I can think of. Asus Infinity of course looks amazing. The other one I am interested in is Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1. The selling point of the Infinity is of course the keyboard dock. The Note has it's own cool features.

Here's an extensive review of the Note, have not read it myself.

I already got the ASUS tansformer pad tf300 (A cheaper version of the infinity). Sadly though, I almost regret getting a tablet, since it feels a bit useless. Everything it does can be done with a phone or a PC.

Yeah, no point getting a tablet unless you know it will be useful in some ways. Since I have a 12" netbook, I'm not so sure I want an Infinity. A tablet can be used to play games that I can't play on other devices. Which is where a 10" tablet would be nice. I can also use it to watch movies and read. But writing things on a forum is best done with a real keyboard. I'm also getting a Pandora so that's another device with a keyboard. One of the selling points of a Nexus 7 is that it is cheap and comes with the latest Android OS. The screen may or may not be big enough to play some of the games. But since I don't know how much I will use it, it's good that it's cheap.

Well, the thing is that gaming on android isn't that big yet, and mostly filled with half ass FPS games... And I have a galaxy note already which is 5". For watching youtube clips though, a tablet is awesome...

I would love a good RTS game, but sadly I can't seem to find one.

Get Anomaly HD if you haven't played it on PC yet. Jelly Defense is a nice tower defense game. There are also some board games you can play alone or with your friends. I don't have a tablet so I haven't really looked around much.

I have played anomaly on my ipod and my note. Though the replayvalue of it isn't the greatest. Im not realy a big fan of towerdefence either. What I would like is an RTS like command and conquer or Total war. The one limitation of tablets for that though is that you don't have a rightclick option. You can't press a unit in one way to select it, and then give orders to that unit with anoter click.

Other than that an RTS game would be awesome. Sadly it seems that most games for tablets/phones are either casual games (Angry birds ect.) or console/PC games with half ass controlls (FPS games ect)

That could work. Or you could drag to give orders...

Dont buy a tablet, build your own out of an old laptop or netbook. many people did it before, and you can even build something a lot better than whats avaliable on the market. People have done it before. you can find a lot of examples of DIY tablet projects out there. Also building your own is fun and you will enjoy using something you built a lot more than something you bought.

Dont be a consumer, be a creator!

Drag to give orders is what I would do in an RTS on a tablet.

Yeah, I know the lack of good games. If I had more time and a good artist I have some really interesting tablet ideas. But for now it will be my platform game.
