Hi!

For the time I've been hosting my servers to play with friends on minecraft I have been using hamachi. So today I decided I would port forward so it's faster and doesn't take up that much time.

I have a BT Homehub 2. I followed tutorials on youtube, and forwarded port 25565. I configured the server and all that stuff, but when I or my friends try to join, they can't. It says cannot reach server. The only way I can connect is by setting the server address to "localhost". I've tried multiple times in doing the same thing, but no avail. If anyone is familiar with BT and hosting minecraft servers then I would I appreciate some help.

Unfortunately I know that I don't have any specific/detailed information however I cannot figure out where the issue is. I have looked on various forums and the internet but I can't find anything. This is my first time attempting port forwarding so things were bound to go wrong.

Thanks!

Are you forwarding to the local ip of the computer the server is running on?

As far as I can remember it's not necessary to set up port forwarding with Hamachi, but you must make sure the game is using the Hamachi interface.

Otherwise, you could set up port forwarding and try without Hamachi.

Is this not what he's doing? Or have I misunderstood. Hamachi and port forwarding should have no effect on each other as far as I know. (Within reason.)

I meant I am not using hamachi. Sorry if my wording confused anyone.

I haven't checked that tbh but I guess I am.
How would I check that? It does not say anywhere what IP I'm forwarding to, only the device.

Check your firewall. That sounds to be the issue.

Maybe your router is different. On my router you have to do ipconfig on the computer you want, get it's local ip, and then set the port to be forwarded to that IP.

I'll look into that. Although I don't know what I should let through...

Probably. It doesn't give an option on what IP to forward to. It only asks you to select the device. I then looked up my IP address and gave that to my friend. Both that one and the local one from ipconfig. None of them worked.

What does it give you to forward to?

First question would be why are you using hamachi to setup a server? Anyway, to port forward its a fairly simple process.

Router:
If you have a router, you need to find your internal ip address. To do this go to start, search, type in cmd and select command prompt. Next type ipconfig and press enter. Your address should be something like 192.168.1.3 or somthig. Write it down. You also need to grab your defualt gateway address. Typically something like 192.168.1.2 or something. Write it down. Next load your internet browser. Type in the 192.168.1.Your gate way address and press enter. This will load your router page. Next you need to find the port forwarding settings. Every router is different so this page will vary. Just make sure you assign it to your servers address aka the 192.168.1.3 r what ever address. Once this is done, you have forwarded the address. Now you just need to goo to "whats my ip" and give your friend this ip address. You will both connect to it and your done.

No Router:
If oyu have no router then no need to port forward. Simply go to "whats my IP" and connect to that address.

Been awhile since I hosted my own MC Server but that should work. Don't use third party tools to do somethig as easy as port forwarding or hosting something as easy as MC. Likely take longer to setup hamachi then to just do it the correct way.

Like I said I am port forwarding because I DON'T want to use hamachi anymore. I used it before because it was easier and faster.

Thanks for the instructions. I'll follow them when I get back from school.
