Mods have greenlit this post, but requested me to avoid using swearwords and clearly warn that the jam has a swearword in the title. Also: participating will make you a better game developer.

I\'m co-organizing a jam centered around the theme of making a game in a genre you hate. It was announced last monday, by now, 900 people have signed up.

Through utter ignorance for conventions and hate for the established rules of a genre, beautiful things will happen.

The jam lasts from Friday November 9th 18:00 until Saturday November 17th 18:00. You\'re free to participate a single, multiple or all of the days. For some cities around the world, we will organize event locations.

If you feel like signing up (again, warning: swearing), just Google the event (I obviously can't link to it) and sign up at the website (it ends in .com). It'd be extremely to have some TGC/DarkBASIC-related games up in the final jam.

I know exactly what this is, Cian Rice/Animeblood linked me to it, so I might be tempted to enter. Now I gotta figure out which genre I hate the most.

Here's a very nice list of genres for anybody curious:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_genres

I'm thinking my least favorite would be the cheap puzzle games... most puzzle games really...

Visit my blog http://www.canales.me. Also yes I changed my name. It was time for a change.

Am I the only person that does not see Wrestling [As in those stupid boxing ring based ones... you know what I mean WWF etc ] as a sport?

As I do not see it as a sport...I think Football comes second lol...

Is a basic football game [ball never leaves the gound] easy?

If so that would be what I would likely attempt

Hang on this has me perplexed somewhat... a genre we hate, but a game we like?

I hate sports games, but that does not mean I dislike Racing games...

Sugar... this requires a bit of research lol as I can not concretely say I hate sports genre games... time to look around...

Is it fair to say I hate Adult Video Games

TOOOOO COMPLICATED!

HEAD EXPLODES...

I shall not be participating... but hopefully this thread will serve as a point of reference for the topic

"Simulation" games have to be one of the most boring genres ever created. With simulation I'm also talking about sports games and those really boring racing games where all you do is drive around in a car with realism.

Why is it that everyone likes these "realistic" racing games anyway? How can driving a car be fun without at least having some rocket launchers or turtle shells orbit your car?

And don't even get me started on realistic sports games...

Because most people who want to experience the thrill of racing don't have access to sports cars and race tracks?

There's a lot of nuances to driving a racecar on a circuit that one doesn't get from arcade racers... For example, proper breaking, taking tight corners, working your butt of on bring your lap time down half a second, deciding on the best path through a track, etc.

I find the ultra-realistic racers boring as well. Games like Burnoutaradise and NFS:MW were great fun though.

Depending on my schedule that weekend, I might join this jam. Gonna have to think up a genre that I don't like though...

This is a strange image on the wiki. Is it expressing the self-destructive nature of the videogame industry?

The genre I hate the most is MMORPG
Or artillery games, yeah they would be a bit easier.

Shh... you're pretty.

I love MMORPGs, so I am safe in that department. I don't like some of the people who play MMOs, because they can be right a-holes, but it sometimes depends on the MMO, the community of FFXI is often quite friendly, whereas WoW (particularly on the release of an expansion like MoP) you get might be subject to being called a noob.

Simulation games, I actually like them. Never played Train Simulation, given my lack of interest in trains, I suspect I wouldn't like it. I don't like dance games though, but I don't really have the tools to make one.

But, war FPS Games are getting on my nerves now, like CoD & BF, so maybe I should crack open FPSC? But I like the FPS genre. I thought I hated arcade games, particularly asteriod and pacman, but when playing them or their clones I actually found I enjoy it.

Times like this I wish I had a stalker so they could tell me what I hate.

I kind of agree but kind of disagree. I disagree because they're amazing and they're the genre I love the most, but I agree because yes, they can get very, very boring. (Ship simulator, for one, which doesn't allow you to speed up time >.>, and trains are awesome and all, but I don't want to spend THAT much time just sitting in the driver's seat)
Mostly disagree though, but it depends which simulation game you pick.

Agreed, this was also my first thought. Like bejeweled and zuma. Maybe they would be a fun game to play if I was stuck on a flight for 12 hours and didn't have a book, or if I was stranded on a desert island.

If all I had was zuma and I was stranded on a desert island, I'd start swimming towards the mainland

I love you. Don't ever stop stalking me.

I don't like Football and I don't like sports games...hmm, well I guess I have it - steam punk football? It needs something to make it interesting . However, I am ashamed that my stalker didn't figure it out before me...is my odour really that bad?

Steam punk football RPG of course, you start as a rookie draft pick on a quest to obtain the mystical championship ring of smiting which gives +5 to the end zone 'look a how awesome I am' skill

I hate sports games but I think a sports game would be really challenging to build in that period of time. I'll keep looking for another genre...

I suppose it depends on the kind of sports game, something like any of the EA sports ones, definitely, but something like TGC's Goals, I'm sure it could be done.

I despise Art games, well the "interactive" ones like Dear Esther, where it is so monotonous and boring, and no real game-play. So I guess if I decide to join I've got something with no real difficulty (good for me as I suck at programming).

Awww, would love to enter but I have overloaded myself. If only I had more clones.

As for the the worst game genre, definitely with TheComet on simulations (mechanical sims, life sims, sports games, *.*)

Worst game series: The Sims (and spin-offs). Those games must be burned by holy fire that their evil energy be cleansed from this world.

Dah! I totally forgot about this. I'm working a 7 day week too, so I doubt I'd get much coding time in (plus NaNoWriMo), I guess I'll have to admit defeat and give it a go next time.

Chill. Gran Turismo 5 is super fun to me

I love all different kinds of games but the one's that I don't like would be sports games. I just feel that your better off just playing the actual sport in real life than sit down in front of a TV playing it there. Buy yourself a basket ball or football or whatever and head to your local park with courts. Much better that way. Lolz
